Just got banded 2 weeks ago!!

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Im new to this lapband community and I have to say I am very happy I found it. I go to school fulltime and I don't have time for support groups yet so this will hopefully help me out a lot! I just got my band October 7th 2009 and I am already on the pureed stage. Its been hard for me but I have been following the diet strictly until yesterday. I ate a couple pieces of cheese and turkey and I am regreting it now because I don't know if this would effect my healing process. I dont know if it is a really big deal but would this hurt anything?? I was kind of worried after because they say how important it is to follow the diet 100%. This may sound like a dumb question but im very new to this whole lapband thing.

The whole reason that you're not supposed to eat real food soon after your surgery is because digesting that food causes your stomach to move and contract. This stomach movement can possibly interfere with your band healing in correct position. So, it's better if you closely follow your doc's post-op dietary guidelines.

Since your operation had u lost much weight? I had my band done on 10/5 and first week I lost 18 but since last week only lost 2 lbs, and feeling stuck already-find it hard to believe w/ eating this little I am not peeling off the pounds. Maybe I am doing something wrong.

wow 18 pounds the first week is wayyy better then me! since i had my band on the 7th i have lost about 10 pounds. Its going a little slow for me but the docter told me a lot of people do not lose a whole lot of weight in the first 4 to 6 weeks. When you get your first fill you should start losing weight a little quicker and you will be more used to having the band and learning how to use it. Im still learning a WHOLE lot my self but im not going to be to worried yet about not losing weight super fast.

Hi there! Saw your post and thought I'd let you know you're not alone! I was banded 9/22/09 and have lost a total of 33 lbs. (11 lbs. post op) The first week I lost 8 lbs. and in the last three weeks 3 lbs! I go to the gym daily (treadmill, and light resistance training). It's really frustratrating and I feel hungry between Snacks & meals. This is what the other bandsters call "Bandster Hell"! My first fill is 11/5 and I can not wait!!! Good luck to you!

Thanks for the reply. I went and saw me Dr., yesterday and he said I am doing great. He said right now, after surgery - my body sort of thinks I went an an Island and I am starving so holding to weight. He said that will change. I too am looking forward to my band fill in a few weeks. Thanks ladies

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
