HI DaniRea,

I made a pact with myself not to weigh myself between doctors visits as I believe your weight fluctuates too much and you can loose cm's and not kg's.....I had surgery 3 weeks ago and my clothes are a getting looser by the week so if that is any indication I reckon I am doing well...... I have my first doctors visit next Tuesday wish me luck :crying: .... I reckon I am down between 10-15kg so far but I don't expect that that I will keep on loosing like this forever just that I like you have a lot to loose so it should come off in the begining.... good luck and keep us posted on your journey

Dewberry

P.S I have walked everyday since my surgery steadily increasing, I am now up to 2km ......I know it's not a marathon but for someone who was actually born allergic to exercise (loll) I reckon I am doing okay:tongue2:

Thank you everyone for the kind words and advise..... I am quite sore about inch and half below the main cut and was in tears last night when i sneezed...... I am on pureed and liquid foods as my doctor said anything that i can get through a straw is good...

though i have heard others say nothing but clear fluids..

Good luck for your op Rachael it will be great.. Wind pains hurts but all good

I look forward to comparing notes as we go..

Good luck every one and keep looking forward to a better life

Danielle

Congratulations, my op was 20/10, like everyone else just a bit tender.

Thanks. I am very very very sore today :blushing: Trying to be positive with the knowledge that this pain will pass and it will get better. When did you start walking? Did you give yourself a couple of days to heal? Rachael

Hi Rachael

I was sore getting in and out of bed for frist 3 days but then i was ok. I walked about 1.7km on the 3rd day so it was all good

I am getting there but now having trouble with wind after eating or drinking any amount. so i hope that passes very very soon.

Chin up and keep looking forward

Danielle

How are you feeling today, DaniRae? I found the third day was the worst, as that was when the anaesthetic had completely worn off but I was still really sore from the op. Every day after that, it got better but the port pain hangs around for quite a while, but very localised. Walk as soon as you can stand and as much as you can, especially after meals (even liquid meals!) It really helps with the gas pains and will gradually build up your tolerance for walking. Just do laps around your loungeroom or walk to the letterbox and back, if that's all you can manage at the beginning - every little bit helps!

Day 3 and feeling a little better, not so much pain. It's so comforting for me to know what to expect.

Please excuse a personal question - but what did you all do with your boobs? Mine are so big they lie on top of the incisions, but can't wear a bra because the underwire hits the sore spots too! I am about to resort to a large bandage to wrap the buggers up. Any ideas?? Rachael.

I am also well endowed, I do use a bra with no underwire but best thing is a tight T shirt rolled up under the bust to soften the weight on the incisions...you can wear a loose top over it so nobody knows. LOL

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
