Slightly embarassing question

Recommended Posts

Ok so I had surgery on Oct 14, 2009 everything went great. I was able to get the surgery with just 1 incision and 1 small pen hole instead of the 4-5 areas. I have no hunger and feel really restricted when it comes to feeling full only problem is whenever I eat something (I am on liquids but can have sugar free pudding or yogurt) I immediately have to go to the bathroom. I usually go for what seems like until the small amount of pudding is out of me. I am not lactose intolerant and I though there was no dumping. For example I can eat a small yogurt (3oz) and 5 mins later I can hear my stomach acting crazy. The sound is kinda traveling and immediate have to go to the bathroom (numerous times). I havent had solid food since like Oct 7 and didnt start really going again till after the surgery. Anyone have this problem? Is it just me?

Thanks:ohmy:

Sounds familiar...same thing happened to me. If I remember correctly, this went on for a few weeks. Hopefully, it will abate with time and things will be more "normal" for you. If it continues or becomes too bothersome, give your dr. a call and see what he has to say about it.

Welcome to "Band Land"!

You'll hear all sorts of new sounds and gurgles - just think of it as musical weight loss!

Sometimes sugar free products have that side effect. I think it could be the artificial sugar in it. Even before I was banded, it used to have that effect on me. But, I know what you're going through. The positive it, at least your digestive system is working! I've heard horror stories of people being backed up from lack of food, pain pills, etc. Things will get better....promise.

I totally agree with the other posters -- this is just temporary (and if it doesn't go away soon, check with your doctor). Once in a while, my stomach will gurgle weirdly, but it's no biggie -- now that I'm only 12 lbs from goal, I just say -- Wow! Guess I'm hungry! (Whereas before, I never would have talked about wanting to eat.)

Apples2 has the right sentiment -- it's been SO worth it!

Best wishes,

Catherine

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
