I know this has been asked somewhere on this thread, but I can't find it!

I am about 4 1/2 months post-op and I am losing hair by the hand fulls! I shed constantly. I am taking all my Vitamins (Daily plus a Calcium supplement) and am making Protein a priorty in my diet (average about 60 a day). Is there something I can add to my diet or supplements to slow it down?

Thanks in advance for any support!

Try not to panic. My hair loss started about 4 months out also and lasted for about 3 months or less. Mine lessened as the time went on and grew back nicely.

I am not going to even take a stab at why this happens. Some people say not enough fats, some say not enough Protein. Who knows. I took Biotin, Vitamin E and always got my required 75 gr of Protein a day and still went through the Hair loss stage.

I feel for what you are going through. You've done a great job on your weight loss. Congrats.

Sorry to hear about your Hair loss. I have read that these three combined will help with that. Protein, Biotin, and Omega 3. I hope this helps. Good luck to you

Sounds like Protein deficiency?? Try adding powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored and up it to min 75 grams a day?

I have been told its the anethesia from surgery. I am sure all of the above mentioned helps to contribute. Eventually it will slow down. I am going through the same shedding issues. So dont feel alone :cursing:

I've heard it explained that we lose our hair because of the anesthesia used during surgery. Because we can't drink lots and lots to help remove it from our systems, we shed hair.< /p>

The good news is - it really does stop and it grows back.

Just when I was starting to really get freaked out - it stopped :cursing:

Sorry about your hair loss. I've heard that anesthesia helps with Hair loss as well and was told not to put any chemicals in my hair for a while post surgery.

Biotin Forte is a good supplement to get. Yoy will have to get it from your pharmacy but you do not need a prescription. It is better than what you can get over the counter. Good luck on your journey!

Is anyone using a Rogaine type product on top of everything else? I am able to see my scalp through the hair and really freaking out :cursing:... It all up in the front that I am getting the thinnest... I was also wondering if maybe it's hormonal changes also... I was banded in June so I am excactly at 4 months!

Any thoughts on the this????

Hi Dan..I'd just wait it out. Some people recommend increasing Protein. Others suggest a product like Knox Gelatin for Nails.

Honestly, do something or do nothing . . . if it's related to the band, it's going to stop falling out and start growing back. Seems like mine lasted a little more than a month.

hair loss is very common with weight loss when you lose a lot of weight. A few years ago my mom and I went on a diet ( high on Protein, lots of Vitamins, B12 shots etc) and we both lost a lot of weight and a lot of hair. When we went to the doctors he said to make sure we were taking our Vitamins and not to worry as Hair loss is common with weight loss ( because your body is getting used to change of food and body chemicals change with less weight etc).

Anyways it did grow back... now I am just waiting for it to fall out again now that I have been banded

I think it was about 4 months in that I started losing my hair. My sinks and floors were full of it and I have black hair so it was very noticable everywhere. It finally stopped after about 3 months and is now growing back in very nicely. Try and be patient.

I have heard that too much Vitamin A can cause Hair loss - any chance you're over supplementing?

I was on a high Protein diet back in the mid 90's and lost 100lbs, lost a TON of hair throughout the process. It did come ALL back, but it took awhile. It helped when I cut my hair shorter too.

Then a few years ago I lost 75lbs on LA Weight Loss. Again, I lost the hair. I cut my hair again super short, took Biotin and used Rogaine (costco generic) consistently and my hair grew back just fine and fast.

I was just banded last month, but I fully expect it to happen again for me no matter how much Protein I have (I avg about 90g per day right now).

I think it just happens to some people no matter what with excessive weight loss. It will eventually come back and you will no grow bald!

I've googled this a few times, and it seems like Hair loss happens to a lot of people after surgeries. (Not just WLS, I mean.) So maybe there's some truth to the theory that it's caused by the general anesthesia. If it gets really bad or bothers you a lot, you could try clip-in hair extensions!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
