I got banded on Oct. 7. I am still on liquids. Of course I have been feeling tortured because I haven't been able to eat anything. But yesterday, I was at a college football game with my family. They all wanted to go to a hamburger place. So, I had a small hamburger. But, I was not able to eat but half of it. Then after the game, they were all hungry again and went to get pizza. I ate one slice of a medium pizza. I feel so guilty today, because I don't want to interrupt my healing and mess something up. Please tell me there are others who have messed up this soon after surgery too.

I am thinking you need to hang out with different people, that is not good support for you ESPECIALLY when you are healing. At this moment and on ... don't cheat , don't jepordize your healing process.

It's your family! Go out and have fun. Why don't you try putting a couple of pre-packaged shakes in your purse when you go. That way you can have a shake while your family has their meal. Don't give up having fun with your family. Just try to find a way to "have your shake and eat it too"!

I cant believe you can eat that much & not get sick, stuck or screw up your new band :thumbup:

I had Tomato juice w/a few small pieces of ground turkey & a few kidney Beans & was yelled at for possibly messing up my band so early in the game. Burger & pizza? ???WOW:drool:

My family & I went to a very nice burger place in Jackson WY yesterday. They savored large juicy burgers w/bacon, cheese & all the fixins. I had french onion Soup MINUS the bread, cheese & onion! broth.< img src="https://s.bariatricpal.com/uploads/emoticons/default_smile.png" alt=":)" srcset="https://s.bariatricpal.com/uploads/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I look forward to being able to eat "regular food" in much smaller amounts but I think it's important to take care of ourselves now. Get yourself back on track & next time pack Protein Drink, soup,whatever you need for your stage of the plan. :confused:

I am 12 days post op and told to be on full liquids for 3 weeks so I definatly feel your pain. Don't beat yourself up for the past, but prepare yourself for YOUR future. I have a friend who was banded 2 yrs ago but had to have it removed after 5 months because of complications because she did not follow the Doc's orders. She cried when they had to take it out because she was still loosing wieght. I have deceided come hell or high Water I will follow Doc's orders because of this, but it is hard. It is your future and you owe it to yourself. Good luck.

Go out with your family and friends. Be social. I have gone out to eat many times since being banded. I am just very careful with what I order. Different Dr.s have different guidelines, so try to stick with what they tell you. When you are able to move on to soft foods and then solids, order the Soup, chili, or something like that.

If you are stuck with only "fast food" as an option, get a small chili at Wendy's. It is full of Protein and not too bad on calories. I looked it up awhile ago and it has something like 200 cal.

Get back on track as soon as possible and definitely don't do this again...you really do risk your healing.

It's hard...getting started with this new way of living.

You have to take care of you.

220 cal. , 17 g Protein .... kinda high in sodium, but still better that the burger and fries :confused:

Humming Bird: Thanks for the info on Wendy's chili. I usually eat 1-2 a week when I'm out/about.

Ahealthierme: First of all forgive yourself and don't mess up again. Put your mindset on what the band is all about. Prepare for those times that your family will be eating out. Take along a acceptable "ditty bag" with your shakes or some kind of Protein. Enjoy your family time together. You need to remember your user name every time you are tempted. You can't be a healthier you if you don't follow the rules.

i agree w/ the other posts. i was banded april 22nd and have lost close to 80 pounds and trust me, the first couple of months were brutal. the liquid stage and then the mushy stage are really important b/c you are still healing and your body is adjusting. i definitely don't want to sound like i'm coming down on you but it was too big of a decision/investment, etc to jeopardize the band slipping. when i got into the mushy stage, i took black Beans and ran them through a processor and heated them w/ cheese and topped off w/ a little salsa and it was delicious and really filling. stick w/ high Protein and it will kickstart your metabolism, at least that's what my md said. i am in my 40's w/ a sluggish thyroid anyway and i am still losing b/c i do everything i can not to cheat. if i do cheat, and it does happen, i just make sure i cheat w/ protein. you can do it! just be careful at this stage - don't jeopardize the band :thumbup: good luck!

I hope you have recovered well and are back on track. Sorry I seemed harsh. I am just sick of my husband bringing home junk food. And while I am fasting I have to cook dinner. You should enjoy yourself, just bring alternate choices for yourself. I let people eat in front of me and enjoy their company, while sipping on a drink.

I am learning not to make food the focus of my social life. It is hard. I am sure in no time I will have a group of friends to hang with and do activities as the focus vs food! Hang in there.... sorry about before.

Above all else, we all need to remember that we can love our family and friends, spend tons of time with them BUT WE DON'T HAVE TO SUBSCRIBE TO THEIR BAD HABITS. After all, it helped put us on the operating tables!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
