The only advice I can give you is to make mini goals. No more Saturdays on liquids, then the last weekend, then only three more days, etc. It's hard, but just try to stay focused on letting your stomach heal to reduce the possibility of a band slip.

My suggestion is that you find something else to occupy your time besides food.

Start a new book? Take a short walk? Find a craft project to work on? Paint your nails? Take up meditation? Research something you've always wanted to know more about online? Annnnnything to get your mind busy with something else.

I know how you feel. And its hard because you are stuck at home recovering and have nothing else to think about! Plus, if you watch TV it is all about food! Here is what I did: When I felt deprived, I searched the internet for easily pureed food I can cook. Then I made a shopping list. The day before I could eat, I went grocery shopping and created my first meal (no crust quiche) the night before. Finally, the day came, and it turned out I wasn't missing much, I just thought I was. Also, about two days early, I got some Trader Joes Tomato Soup and had two half cups a day. I had no problem with this and it made me feel like it wasn't so horrible to not eat. I'm still on the pureed portion, I get soft foods on Thursday, and I'm not even to concerned or excited. I'm just looking forward to feeding myself in an easier way.

I totally understand what you all are saying. I was banded on the 7th. I have been on liquids and last week (Thursday) I added my Protein shake with skim milk...so much better. I felt full and it holds me most of the day.

Returning to work last Wednesday (1 week post op) has been helpful to keep my mind off of hunger. I found that watching tv all I ever saw was food. I never really noticed that before.

I have tried the unjury chicken Soup. It has Protein so it keeps the hunger away. I also made cream of wheat (never liked it before) but ate a bowl of it Friday night.

I pretty much have my shake for lunch, broth for lunch, Jello, pudding or apple sauce for a snack, and broth for dinner. I have found that the homestyle chicken noodle from campbells is great tasting (I strain off all of the noodles and bits). My DH loves to collect them for 2 days then have a bowl of soup himself.

This Thursday I can start mushy foods. I think the first thing I will have is an avacado! It has been hard, especially at the marching band competitions with all the funnel cakes and nachos nearby. I just keep telling myself that this phase is temporary. I can get through it to live a better life.

Way to go and keep it up!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
