Weight gain after 2nd fill

Recommended Posts

Good morning all. I just had my second fill this past Tuesday. I have a realize band and now am up to 7ccs. After my first fill, 3.5, I had no restriction and could eat everything, although I didn't and did not gain nor lose weight.

Now, after the 2nd fill, I definitely have pretty good restriction and am eating about half as much but have gained about 5 lbs.

My guess is my body thinks it is being starved and is hanging onto eveything it has and will readjust in another few days and start burning the food again.

Anyone else go through this or am I just crazy.

Thanks,

Tom

I would not worry to much about the weight gain. I would attribute that to like post op when you go from liquids and mushies to regular solid food. You see a lot of people on here who gain during that period. Give it a couple of days, make the right food choices and exercise. Wishing you positive thoughts and good health.

I had my third fill on Monday October 5th.. and as of today I have lost 8 pounds... but in those 13 days I have watched the scale go down eight pounds up five pounds and back down five pounds to the original eight I lost the three days after my fill while on liquids...

It's frustrating and that is probably why I shouldn't get on the scale three times a day... I am obsessed with it but I can't stop...

I understand your frustration...but just eating the correct portions and foods and it all works it's self out in the end.

Good luck!

Hello, I see that you have had a tremendous amount of success with the lap band and was wondering if you might have any words of wisdom for me? I was banded back in April and have only lost 9 lbs since that time. I lost the 9 lbs following the first few weeks following surgery. The next few months were a series of fills which were too low, too tight and now, I think correct. The issue I have is that I can still eat junk and while I try to stay away from it I am still snacking. If you don't mind sharing, I was wondering what your diet was like. I am really getting down and have been kicking myself for not having had gastric bypass surgery.

Any help you might be able to provide would be appreciated

I am feeling your pain....I was loosing like crazy until this last fill which wasn't alot, but enough that I REALLY felt restriction. I'm eating less and alot slower and chewing better, and learning all about "stuck", so it doesn't make sense that I'm not loosing some weeks at all and have gained a few, but then loose them. It seems as though I'm trying to loose what I've gained over a few days. (If that makes sense) I really feel like it has to be my body holding on or something, cuz I swear I drink more Water and work out more and it just is really getting frusterating how this past month, I've only lost like 5 pounds.....ughh!!

Hello Kitten,

First and foremost congrats on being banded, it takes a lot of guts to get to that point, so good for you.

I can totally relate to the snacking thing. I have always been a grazer, picker, whatever you wanna call it. Even up until the last couple of months I have had difficulties with that. I finally made that decision that I HAD TO CHANGE. There was no one there to tell me not to eat that chip or that scoop of ice cream, I had to do it for myself. I have also incorporated daily exercise in the last month. I needed to get moving, I held off for a long time with that, and now that I am moving I feel wonderful! I now try to eat three small meals a day with two Snacks (try to have it be protein) and that is really helping. I drink a lot of Water and am trying to stay away from the picking. Although I have lost some weight I still have a life long battle to fight and I know that means staying away from my bad habits.

As far as words of wisdom I think you know what you need to do. Try and avoid problem areas such as grazing, and junk food. Easier said then done I know, but you have to want to succeed bad enough and that should taste better then any junk. Are you exercising, walking, riding a bike , gym? That has helped me immensly. The lapband is a tool and it took me a while to understand it is not going to do the work for me. I wish you luck and remember we are all here for each other. Email me if you ever need someone to talk to. Keep your head up !

I was going to post something to this same effect, but then I read your post. I, too, have hit the proverbial wall, so to speak, following my fourth fill (3.1 cc in a 4 cc band). For the first few days, I had trouble swallowing anything (so stayed on liquids). The next week or so, I was hungry all the time, and though I could eat only small portions, I did not have that feeling of fullness. I've slipped into some old habits over the past few days, so after having a long talk with myself, I took the bull by the horns and threw out those foods that were tempting me. I also filled up four large glasses with Water and left them by the frig so if I was tempted to eat something, I would see them and choose them instead. Today was much better, so I hope to see the scale moving again soon.

The good thing about this board is that we can encourage one another in our struggles and rejoice together over our victories. In the long run, I'm still down 52 pounds and feel better than I have in years, even if the scale has slowed down recently.

5 pounds in a month is on track. 1-2 pounds a week is a good weight loss and about what is expected. It does add up too so hang in there!

Thanks to everyone for their help and thoughts. I love this group and actually find it more helpful than the in person support groups.

Thanks again!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
