Hi All, I was banded on October 5.smile.gif I am at the MUSH stage.

I have been eating chicken salad, egg salad-both finely grated. I also have had some mashed potatoes w/ melted mozzarella and garlic, finely pureed chicken and gravy. I also had scrambled egg white with melted cheese. I dislike tuna and cottage cheese. Oh my favorite has been skim ricotta, garlic, sauce and a little melted mozzarella. It is like ziti without the noodles. I am BORED with these few choices. Does anyone have a special concoction they have made at the soft foods stage? Any help is appreciated.

Tracy

smile.gifPS I was weighed yesterday and am down 20 lbs!!!smile.gif

I really liked the fat free refried Beans with melted cheddar on it and some fresh avacado. It saved the day for me.

I agree with the Beans also...that is so satisfying and add some salsa or taco sauce and it gets rid of the spicy craving!

I was banded on 10/9 and am still on full liquids but I just discovered Progresso chicken cheese Enchilada soup....OMG I love it.

It is easy to digest for the full liquid stage but I can imagine it becoming a side for the mushy stage with refried Beans and cheese - or adding it to mashed potatoes would be yummy too - how about using it as a base for building a thicker stew.

I love it - it is low carb and high protein!!

I craved canned asparagus and it was easy. Protein is hard during this stage. I bought baby food and mixed it with other adult stuff like salza and natures seasons. Anything you can eat if you don't have teeth goes during mushy... I have seen toothless people eat lots of stuff so use your imagination.....

Before I was banded, I purchased the cookbook "Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery" by Patt Levine and Michele Bontempo-Saray. This book made my mushie stage wonderful. Each recipe is full of Protein and flavor and the authors tell you how much you can eat depending on what type of surgery you had (they list lap band, bypass, and bpd-ds) and what weeks you can eat each recipe. The forward claims that all the recipes taste the same whether pureed or chopped and I thought "yeah right" but it is true! They have a whole chapter on Soups and you can eat any of them at the mushie stage. I especially love the chicken Artichoke Soup. I don't eat any seafood and can't stand cottage cheese so this book was a lifesaver.

I was banded on 9/3 so I recently came out of the mushies (which my doctor has people on for three weeks) and into the chopped foods. Good luck!

P.S. Another savior for me was canned black bean refried Beans with some low fat shredded cheese and sour cream.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
