Yay!! Got my approval letter today

Recommended Posts

So I called last Friday to check the status and the girl told me it was approved on 10/06 I was so excited it had been sent in by my doctors office the previous Thursday. Got my letter in the mail today and I will call Monday to see if the doctor recieved his letter also....I'm so excited and I don't even care if I have to be on a liquid diet during the Holidays!!!

So I started picking up some things for after surgery that I saw other people on the board said helped them. A heating pad, baby plates, forks and spoons and some sippie cups (figure if I don't use these I have a neice that will be starting to eat regular food soon). I have Isopure protien powder from before I even started this process. Any other main things I should get before the surgery? I saw some people talked about binders for after surgery and how it helped with support and pain, any suggestions or recommendations on that.

Thanks

Congrats!! You are now on the way to a new, healthy, you!!!

Binders?! I never heard of that!!! The only thing that I had for support was a small pillow to hold tight across my tummy to help support it in case I sneezed, coughed, or hit a bump in the road on my way home from the hospital. That did help a lot.

Good luck to you!

GasX Strips could be helpful.

Elastic band pants.

Extra pillows to prop yourself up with - or buy a couple of those wedge pillows - so nice.

I ended up with dry lips - chapstick helps.

Thanks everyone!! I will definately look into getting a small pillow to hold against my stomach for the ride home, etc. I already invested in some stretchy waisted pants and I'm addicted to chap stick  so I have that covered. I will definately invest in some Gas X.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
