I wasn't required to lose weight, but interestingly, I lost 10 pounds during the 3 week process from seminar to approval. Now I'm on a low carb diet just because I want to feel better going into surgery.

my counsult date I was weighed and told I could not gain one pound..... then I have the preop 2 week liquid to do and they are looking for me to lose a min of 10 lb on that.... to date I have lost 22 and I begin the liquid diet and I get reweighed on this upcoming Wed. So from the scale # on Wed I will need to lose 10 lb , that is how they gauge if you are following the 2 week liquid diet.

I started watching what I ate from the date of the seminar. Since 8/15 I have lost 17 lbs. I am in my 3 month medically supervised diet phase now. This is required by my insurance. I figure, why wait? I need to lose weight so why put it off? I will most likely have a Jan or Feb band date. By then my weight loss will probably have stalled and the band will kick start it again.

I am going in for my second consult tomorrow. I plan on starting on low carb or liquid diet at least two weeks before my surgery!

Good luck. Sounds like an idiotic way to determine whether someone is following the diet since there are so many variables as to how fast you lose.

I didn't have to lose any weight before my pre-op diet and actually between my initial consult and my final pre-surgery consult I gained 10 pounds. However, on my 3-week pre-op diet I lost 20 pounds and my surgery was fine with no issues or complications. Good luck!

I agree. but since last Tuesday have been doing the MasterCleanser to detox before I am banded kinda "reseting" Myself. I changed a lot of things already so I was doing this to really jumpstart and clean out, it tends to take away the cravings etc too. I have done this over the years a couple of times and I normally lose 1 pound a day. I was planning on sticking to it for a month when I started( I was given a surgery date after I started LOL) so it looks like that is what I will basically do. I don't want to do all the sugar free stuff since I am anti artificial sweetner person. this should shrink my liver down too and clean me out good. so basically mission accomplished... We shall see. I will talk to them on Wed when I go it to get weighed and see what they say since I may stall at some point ... never have but may.... let them know what I am doing and why. Hopefully I will lose more than 10 but if not so be it.

I have gone above and beyond to prepare for this so I will keep trucking on.

What's your MasterCleanser? I do a MasterCleanser (that's what they call it) every now and again (and am on day 3 right now) where you mix equal parts lemon juice and maple Syrup. Then 6 times a day you put 3 Tbs of this mix in an 8 oz glass of Water and sprinkle about 1/10th of a tsp of cayenne pepper on top. It's only a 4 day cleanse.

I'm not hungry, don't have any cravings and have an incredible amount of energy right from the start. Best of all, my blood sugar levels drop to normal without meds and I lose anywhere from 10-18 lbs. Yeah...I know it's mainly Water, but it's a great start to a low carb eating plan. Normally, if I go right into low carb, I only gain back 2-3 pounds but then lose it again within another couple of days.

yes that is the one but I typically have done it 30-40 days.

www.mastercleanser.com has a great forum for that, check it out. Wow finally found someone over here that knows and does it

One reason most surgeon's require you to lose a certain amount of weight before surgery has to do w/your liver. In obese people, it is not uncommon for the liver to be enlarged and the only way to shrink it is to lose weight. When the liver is enlarged, it makes it harder to see everything they need to see in order to band you. By losing weight and shrinking your liver, it makes it easier for them to band you. I hope this helps!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
