fell off the wagon (kinda)... need help

Recommended Posts

So I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or could offer advice.

I was banded like 1.5 years ago. anyway at first I was doing ok, had my first fill and thinks were moving along... well then I had a series of things happen in my life that caused me to get severely depressed. I mean not your average depressed this was like nothing I've ever experienced before and hope to never go through again. I was have panic attacks and then I couldn't get out of bed for months. I would just lie there and cry then when I was all cried out I would just lay there and stare off into space. I went to the doc they gave me medicine, and I was able to make myself get out of bed. I would get up get dressed and sit on the couch completely numb until it was time for me to go to bed. It was a really dark time... but anyway during that time I gained back all of the weight I'd lost. Then after I was able to start getting past it and go back to work. I was still pretty blah and I really fell off the whole healthy eat right LAP-BAND® band wagon.

So now that I'm over it and I feel like myself again, I've been trying to loose weight, but I don't know what to do. I mean the whole reason I had the surgery was b/c I couldn't loose weight and now I feel like I screwed myself by getting all depressed. I want to go to my doc to see if I could get back on a diet and get fills and stuff again. But to be honest I'm embarrassed. I weigh more now then I did pre-surgey. Not by much, but still more.

I don't know what to do. If anyone has had a similar situation or has gained weight and then went back to the program I would love to hear your thoughts. Any advice, words of wisdom, or encouragement is much appreciated.

Depression is caused by a chemical inbalance in the brain. It hits people of all ages and some very famous people have suffered from it. It's good that you now have it under control with meds. Go back to your band doctor, explain what happened to you and the meds you are taking now. Tell him that you want to be successful and willing to try again. Don't be embrassed. Most doctors have heard it all, seen it all. Please don't give up completely.

I agree with LollyMoe. You should go back to your band doc and jump back on! Tell them what you went through and that you are even embarassed about it.

But, just jump back on ! No better time to get on with the rest of your life than right now.

your Doc should be fine. The point of the band is to help you to lose weight and that requires fills. I have heard of people that get no adjustments for years and then get back to it. You have made the investment in yourself. Call the Doctor and get back in the game.

While I didn't suffer from depression, I did recently gain weight. Weight that I thought was gone forever. Bleh.

I'd told myself it was only a few pounds..and then it was a few more...and a few more. And...bleh.

Then...I was too embarrassed to go to the doctor. So I gained a few more.

Then!...I got my head together and realized I needed help. So I went to the doctor and when I thought the nurse was being a little judgmental, I said, "You know what? I'm here now. At least I came back."

So...go back to your doctor. It might suck. But you are there for help. You are paying them. It's their job to help you.

And once you start losing weight, you'll remember how good that feels and you'll be glad you went.

xoxo

Im so happy that you have come out of the darkness. Trust me, you are not the first and certainly not the last person to fall of the proverbial wagon. Now that you have realized that, jump back on!! Your doctors are there to help and if they don't see one that will. You deserve every ounce of happiness on your road to recovery. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
