I've read a lot about the hurdles and all the steps people have to go through to get approved by their insurance companies? I have an OBGYN who reccomended WLS, gave me a business card to a bariatric surgeon. I called immediately and made an appt, saw the surgeon a week later. Half way through I asked if he thought I'd get approved, he said i already was or I wouldn't be seeing him today. I have to follow the four month weight management plan and then can have the surgery. Am i just lucky or is this not that unusual? :scared2:

Seems like these days anyone who has insurance is lucky. But yeah, you're lucky you happen have an insurance that covers WLS if you meet their criteria. Yay for you. Good luck on your journey to improved health!

That does seem unusual, actually. My insurance provided approval of eligibility - but I have to do a six month supervised weight loss program, plus some additional stuff, before my actual application, if you will, can be sent in for approval. So I'm eligible - but not approved - at this stage.

On the other hand - all the zillions of insurance companies and all their zillions of policies may make it so for you. It is so different for everyone!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
