Problem taking meds?? or what??

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I was banded July 15th of this year..

This has happened like 4 times to me in the past 3 weeks or so. I have finally figured out that I pretty much CAN NOT eat anything until I have been up and around for at least an hour...I guess because I am too tight in the mornings??

Well I think I have finally pinpointed another problem I have to avoid...what do ya'll think?? The other day I made some coffee and I take Zoloft, but havent taken it in a few days so broke it in half and took it with 1-2 sips of coffee....well I spent the next hour 'spitting up'...I say spitting up..because that's all it was...spit spit spit....it was like I was vomiting..because I was literally with my head in the sink like I was throwing up..but all that kept coming up was spit...and I felt awful....like you have to keep throwing up..but it's spit. I didnt eat ANYTHING. Well like I said this has happened about 2-3 other times when I didnt eat anything, just drank something first thing in the morning..and I realized it was when I also took my medicine. So help....is the problem that I am trying to take a pill first thing in the morning?? or what. I just know that I dont even want to try to drink ANYTHING period till I have been up a while cause I am not 100% that it's only when I take my medicine (since I wasnt taking it regularly like I should)....anybody else have this happen?

Thanks for 'listening'!!

If you can, I would wait until lunch to take any meds.

I can't handle taking a gulp of any drink to get a pill down in the morning. I also find I am very sensitive to meds sitting in my empty stomach....add some coffee to that and for me it's an instant recipe for pain, swelling and a couple days of liquids.< /p>

I have a history of gastritis and delayed gastric emptying, so your story is likely not the same as mine, but I'd still say wait a bit before taking meds if you can.

pills sticking is a common problem. If you can, take them later in the day. Another thing to try is making sure you lots of lubrication going on - try drinking a cup of hot tea before you take the pills.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
