bad habits - I need to stop NOW

Recommended Posts

I love my band thanks to the weight loss but I can tell already I am forming bad mental habits that apper to be replacing my bad eating habits. Why can't I just be bad-habit free? I am obessing about my band - is it infected, is it slipping, etc. -- and worse, I am obessing about weight and food. I weigh myself at least 2 times a day even though I repeat my mantra of "this is time to heal not to lose". I get depressed that I haven't lost in 4 days even though logically I know it's only been 4 days and I did switch to mush so no loss is expected, but yet I still feel sad. It's so dumb b/c i never felt this sad when I would diet for a month and only lose one little pound! Also, I feel like a PIG since I went on mushies when in reality I normally eat like I did yesterday - 1 Protein Shake, 2 cans Soup, 4 crackers, and 3 bites of ice cream - that's what I would have for a snack pre-band and now I feel like a total pig b/c I ate "all" that. My brain is so having a devil/angel argument with itself!!!! Sorry for the rant! If I didn't have you guys to vent to I could never have done this!

Hi

That is how I was, and sometimes still am. If someone posts something about a slip or symptoms they have, I will start talking myself into maybe having the symptoms also. I am really scared of what can happen, but kind of console myself with the fact that if I take care of my band everything will be ok.

When I went onto solids after fluids etc I put on about 5kg, and just went up and down 2 kgs or so for the next month or more. Once I found restriction after 8 fills, the weight started coming off again. It is all about healing in the first 6 weeks and in most ppl the band is really not alot unless it is filled properly.

I just wanted to let you know that all your worries and concerns are normal and what most of us feel as well.

Laura,

I know what you mean! This is a mental journey even more than a physical one. I remember thinking the same thing when I switched from liquids to mushies. Oh my God! I ate 1000 calories today! Now I'm going to gain weight!

Our pre-banded selves would crack up at this thinking. I'm still relatively fresh from surgery (3 months out) and I find myself getting depressed when I leave food on my plate. I know I should be glad that I can't eat it, yet sometimes it makes me so sad!

At any rate, you're still very fresh from surgery so of course it's on your mind all day! Hopefully a year from now we'll both have the emotional/mental stuff down pat, and all we'll have on our mind is which fabulous new outfit to wear today! :):D:D

I still pout when I can't eat a full meal. As much as I know that is why I got the band in the first place, it doesn't help my brain any. This is a lifetime learning process. Take your time to heal and know that everyday is a new day!

Kim

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
