So, I've got my paperwork off in the mail for the surgeon, so he can call and schedule my initial consult. I've already been to a seminar.

Today, I applied online for a loan to cover the cost of the surgery. The initial offer that came in was for about 2/3 of the total cost. They are going to check with two other lendors and see if I can 1) get a higher amount, 2) get lower interest rates or 3) lower payments.

Have I put the cart before the horse? Should I have had my consult first then applied for the loan? Your input is appreciated.

By the way, as I was on the phone with the loan consultant, a little gnat flew by, and as I took a breath while talking, I sucked it in and swallowed it! Ugh, I'm still gagging.

The only possible negative I can think of is if you don't get the surgery....you would have a hit on your credit report from the loan application you've already made. But since you're self-pay, it's not like the insurance company is going to deny you and that would keep you from going forward.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
