So If I lose 100 pounds in a year.. I am NOT a turtle?

Recommended Posts

I read where someone called themselves a "turtle" ... one who loses weight slowly... on the band....

I have considered my self one of these... and I have had to tell my family this fact,.. "its a slow process for some... dont worry"

But.. I have 4 months left to to 35 pounds and then I will be what seems to be around here as seen as really great.. a 100 pound loser in one year.

I dont know if I can do it..

But I like how it has just become a goal of mine and MAYBE something that will get me to STOP the bad eating habits and pigging out I been doing at night!

anyway..

Who all here has lost 100 pounds in a year or so????

I know I could look it up, but if you wouldnt mind... this place is really big..

Nykee,

So 35 more lbs to 100 means you have lost 65 in 8 months? That calculates to 8.12 lbs a month. I would stop thinking of yourself as a slow looser. If ya want to compare I am 1 year and 8 months out and have lost 75 lbs (and very happy about it) but I have lost 3.75 lbs a month you are way ahead of me on that one. You should be happy. ALWAYS BE HAPPY WITH YOURSELF.

We should all remember that this is an individual journey and one that each of us needs to come to terms with and live with in a way that is right for us.

I chose to get fills very small amounts as to not freak myself out, cause I know me, I needed to get use to the idea that I could control my eating and change without PB'ing or any of the other side effects. I wanted to know that I could still eat certian foods, like chicken, my personal favorite. I knew what was right for me, my doctor went along with my program after some discussion. So it took me a year to get to real restricion because I would only take a .3 fill per time. It was right for me.

What I am trying to say is I think you need to decide what you want and what is the best way for you to get there.

(keeping peace of mind was important to me as well as still feeling as if I am in control of me) I am in charge of myself doctors and support groups are not gonna be there in the end it will only be me. Guess I got issues this morning.

Love to all, Hug your kids today. Trish

YOU ARE WHAT YOU THINK YOU ARE

WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT YOU BRING ABOUT

Hi Nykee! You most defininately do not qualify as a Turtle or a slow loser in any way shape or form! Hurrah! You are a zoomer, a Rabbit!

Losing 100 pounds is a big deal, no matter how long it takes you to do it. If you don't lose 100 pounds in a year, you will be no less special that you are right now.

You are already an amazing success Nykee! Say it with me, "I am an amazing success!" Good, now, once more with Feeling!

To qualify for the The Slow Losers, you must be losing less than the "1-2 pounds a week"

hello, nykee I take it that you have lost 65 pounds so far! that great.......Are you doing any thing at all besides your band? like exercising. That will help your band out and cause your body to loose weight, like some type of Aerobic,s.

Iwas walking hour or two aday besides biking weights or jogging up to fifteen hours aweek of exercise and im down over a hundred pounds but I was killing my self and it became very over comimg like a job!

and exercise should be some thing you like doing/and not a chore. so I cut mine in almost half I am up two pounds but just Water weight went on a pizza benge....& junk food for a few days also chocolet...but some times I do that, then no treats for a month or so.

I was at seven pounds to my goal now nine, so it will take me a week or more but thats fine......I will get there in time, and that what weight loss is Time.......I think you can do this with no problems you just have to make your mind up! and then make anew game plan, may be cut back alittle on some thing? and just go for small walks every day! will help. well take care I no you will meet your weight loss goals its all up to you! take care you have done a wonderful job so far keep it up!JOHNQ

a little over 10 months......

I've lost over 100 in less than a year twice in my life--not with the band tho. I got the band after I'd gained back 60 of the last 150# I lost.

With or without the band EXERCISE is the KEY for me. It's a rare day that I do LESS than 60 minutes of some sort of aerobic exercise--and those first 7 minutes are STILL always a struggle. I almost never WANT to workout. There's just no kidding myself that this is an integral part of my weightloss.

In the past I've lost 150 lbs in about 18 months. It came off quickly at first but towards the end I really had to exercise to keep the wl going (of course I gained it back sigh).

YOU CAN DO IT !!!

Loosing 100 lbs in a year is awesome. I don't consider that slow by any means!! It took me about 19 months to loose 100 pounds. I was a slow looser but when I thought about how healthy I look and that the weight hasn't come back, it could have been 5 years and I would have been happy. Someone on here with all their infinate wisdom said "the weight didn't happen over night and you're not going to loose it over night." I remind myself of that every day. So now if the scale doesn't move for a month I don't care and it doesn't seem to bother me. Why? Because even if it's not going down it sure isn't going up!!! Congrats on your weight loss cause you are doing GREAT!!!

Thanks!

I have a mini plan (sems hard!)

My band is loosened up quite a bit

Oct to nov..............8

nov to dec...............7

dec to jan................5

jan ...................get a fill

Jan to feb. 15th..........15

I have to lose like that much a month to make it.

IF I dont make the 8, 7 and 5 for oct, nov, dec.... I will go low carb in January and bust it out.. (maybe.. try anyway)

I think this is a good goal for me..

No one has noticed my weight loss... not even me.

and if I can say I lost a 100 pounds in the year since I had it done..

That has to be recognized!

Wow, I have the same thinking and it's wierd to see someone else writing the same thing in their own words. I know me, and I knew I needed time to wrap my brain around being banded, time to get used to the new eating, time to feel back to normal, somewhat, time to be sure I could still eat certain foods...all of that! So I have been banded over 6 months and have lost right at 30 pounds.

(Nykee, you aren't a turtle! Your weight loss is great! I'll admit, I'm not a big fan of how you are doing it, but your numbers look great!)

I have only had one fill at 3 months, but it's time for another very small one. A .3 fill is sounding great to me. Thanks for the inspiration!

(and Nykee, you say your band has loosened up a bit now...do you know why? Is it the weight loss? the way you are eating? I'll go back and read some more, but was just wondering. I'm glad you are loosening up a bit. :( )

ummmm I dunno

it just opened up alittle the last week ..... like I can take about 3 ounces of juice in the morning instead of just a sip or two. And I can eat solid food like crispy pizza, fish, a bite of sandwitch, a bite of buretto (spit out skin).... cheese slices, quiche, the chicken in the Soup, slit pea and ham, almonds..

What so you think?

I was wondering if it all came about because I posted on here and It influenced me to try more foods than tomatoe Soup and mashed potatoes....

And when I began to eat more food, it started me on this binge like thing...

And it was all cuz of being bitched at..lol

BUT... Theres no denying I has lossened up cuz I was barely able to take a few sips before and now I can take like 3 real drinks before I feel restricted.

This is great news ya know.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
