Post Op 6 days and still have pain?

Recommended Posts

This is my first post and I'm not really familiar with these types of things... but here goes... I had my lap band put on last Thursday, 10/8/09 and it still hurts on the side where the port is when standing up or sitting down or leaning over. Is this normal? Also, still feeling a little queasy...

totally normal, I felt pain and soreness for about 2 weeks gradually going from pain to sore. The port area was tender for 3-4 weeks and nausea is common due to the swelling. The port is normally stitched to a muscle and therefore can pull and tug a bit while healing. If you have severe pain or cant keep anything down call your doctor, but it sounds pretty normal.

Oh! Thank you so much! That was so cool to ask a question and get a reply. I kind of thought it was normal but wanted to check.

If the queasy feeling is bothersome, your surgeon can prescribe some meds for it.

Port pain can last approx. 6 weeks.

Funny we were banded on the same day and I put a similar question up. Guess it's normal. Mine feels more like burning and pulling.

another October 8th bandster here :)

I"m still having tenderness in what I believe is the port area. liquid Tylenol is taking care of the pain but I do have Tylenol w/codeine (rx) if I need it. I still find it hard to lay down flat in bed so I"m sleeping propped up on the couch. The larger incision is very bruised but otherwise looks ok. One day at a time I guess

I am 3 weeks post-op and the port area has just now quit hurting. Also the incision next to the port is still bruised. I think the port is probably the worst part of the surgery for being sore.

I asked the same question 8 days post-op! I heard stories about people being fine and feeling no pain during the 1st week; I was beginning to think something was wrong with me.

I think the healing process is different with everybody.

Good Luck! You should be feeling lots better soon.

Thank yall so much for replying. It makes me feel better knowing that others are experiencing the same thing. I was able to go and walk for 30 minutes on the treadmill today... not real fast but at least I worked up a sweat. Please keep in touch!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
