Lap band surgery- U.S or Mexico

Recommended Posts

There are many LAP-BAND clinics offering the procedure in both U.S and Mexico. The cost of LAP-BAND surgery has been decreasing in the United States over the past few years. The two main reasons are- the increased number of surgeons performing the operation and the competition from other foreign countries like Mexico and India.

my problem is where will I do it? My friend suggested me to go to Monterrey, Mexico and she is in favor of Dr. Zapata.

Any suggestions please?

Do your research and it's up to you where you want to go and who you trust. I went to Tijuana for my surgery and I've been back there twice for fills. I was very happy with the surgery and the clinic. My doctor was Dr. Ariel Ortiz.

Do you have someone locally to do your fills? This is a necessary function of the band. Isn't there a fill center in the Phoenix area?

For me it was a matter of cost, experienced surgeon, and accessibility. It's an hour flight to San Diego and 30 - 40 minutes to the clinic from the air port.

Good luck.

its a matter of cost obese solutions offers both options of course the price is doubled from 5k to 10k, but you can have the option of having surgery just across the border in Tijuana or you can get banded in Los Angeles...

Obese Solutions, Surgical procedures for weight loss

its not the same surgeon but they give you the option according to your situation and they are certified "Member, American Society of Bariatric Surgeons"

Good luck on your new journey

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
