First Day on Optifast Protein Diet

Recommended Posts

I am on my first day of my two week Optifast Protein Diet and it has been a real challenge.

I have had my 5 servings already for day I haven't had dinner yet.

I feel like hungry but I don't have hunger pains. I think it's all in my head.

Really looking forward to going home and relaxing.

Hopefully, tomorrow will be a better day.

Hey, don't know if this would help you or not, but I'll tell you about me and Optifast anyway.

First of all, I had a total of 6 a day, so already I was better off than you:wink2:. I got up each morning, and drank black decaff coffee until 10am when I had my first Optifast. I sipped it really really slowly!!! Then I had one at noon, 2pm,4pm,6pm, and the last one at 8pm.

That schedule worked pretty well for me, and of course the crystal lite popsicles helped out too.

Good luck to you....the time will pass faster than you think!

Finally, the first day is done. I had another Optifast serving when I got home. Afterward, I had a low sodium chicken broth and a small can of diet dr. pepper with headache.

I feel a lot better and I didn't feel hungry at all this morning. We'll see later today.

It's definitely tough. Today has been a little better. I took a walk around grounds to help keep distracted.

Day Four - So far it has been a roller coaster ride emotions and hunger. I have to say the scary/tough part is over.

I am finally used to drinking the shakes and I actually enjoy them.

I am looking forward to my walk later today. It's raining today so I may have to take a tour of the parking garage. :scared2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
