Need help!

Recommended Posts

I've been working on losing the 30 lbs the doctor wants me to lose before the surgery but it's going really slowly. I've only lost about 14 lbs since the beginning of August. I am 5'6" and 336 now. I was hoping all the diet experts here could recommend a good amount of calories/fat per day to take in to get the quickest loss so I meet the 30 lb loss he is asking for. For the past month I've been doing about 1400 calories and 40ish grams of fat a day. Should I change that amount?

I know the nutritionist can help with this but I haven't had a chance to meet with her yet and was just hoping to get a rough estimate in the mean time. I've looked online and everybody seems to say different things. Some say to eat 1000 calories, some say 1200 isn't enough, some say a daily 500 calorie deficit is all you neeed to lose a lb but if that was the case it seems like I should be losing a lot faster than I am. So confused! Help!

Well, you could try a variation of my pre-op diet. It wasn't too heinous and I certainly lost weight.

one Protein shake for Breakfast and then again in the mid to late afternoon.

For lunch and supper, 3 oz of lean Protein, steamed or raw veggies (remember that salad isn't very nutritious so look to other vegetables), and 15 grams of whole grain carbs.

There are soooo many Protein shakes on the market. I like the SlimFast LOW CARB DIET which has 20 grams of Protein and only 2 net grams of carbs.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
