Salad, Bread and Meat...

Recommended Posts

Anyone else having trouble eating these foods? I have accepted that I can't eat bread so I don't even try anymore. I do still attempt to eat some meat although it still usually just ends up coming straight back up so I am sticking to minced meat which always go's down fine as long as I take my time...but I can still not eat salads. They just don't go down and I miss them..I used to love eating salads and I'm now starting to crave them because I can't eat them. :o

I don't understand how I can be losing weight healthily if I am not able to eat meat and salad. Does it concern anyone else?

I only have 5ml in a 10ml band.

OH and also, when eating out, usually meals come with salad, has anyone asked for the salad to be replaced with vegetables and did they do it?

Different people seem to tolerate food differently. Personally I can't eat too much bread, but I can eat it, only maybe one slice toasted and only after lunch, I'm fine with salad and meat.

I agree that it can't be losing weight healthily if you can't eat meat and salad. I hate these shake/soup diets, for one I can't stomach them and I didn't choose to go through surgery just so I would HAVE to eat them. I like keeping my band loose enough that I can still eat good food, just in small portions, and I also seem to do better than when I am just a bit tighter.

There are so many different opinions out there on restriction and such, but only you know your mind, body and band. Maybe if you got a really slight unfill you might be able to eat those foods, and perhaps be happier, as long as you are still losing, of course. It's all trial and error, the important part is that you are happy, I don't believe you should sacrifice that for a little faster weight loss.

Good Luck!

Before I was banded, I heard that many people could not eat salad. I was THRILLED at the thought of never having to eat salad again bc I thought it was a diet food. Alas, I can eat salad just fine. I tolerate more than anything else.

meat is difficult, especially if its really dry. I have to have some kind of juices or sauce to help it.

As for bread, the first year into the band, I couldn't eat bread. Now, I can tolerate it in small amounts if I eat slowly and take small bites. However, I prefer to avoid the bread all together because it makes me bloat up quickly.

I can eat salad in the early afternoon to evening. Cant have it at lunch. Some dry meats are a problem. I absolutely cannot eat cabbage! Tried it when I was released to eat "normal" food. MISTAKE! So I havent had it again for awhile. Last night I tried it again a different way, sauteed. Family favorite, nope cant do that either! Came right back up! So from now on I will stay away from it...back to you. Maybe you cant tolerate salad until later in the day? I have a Protein shake in the morning because of being tight. Then at lunch I try something like tuna. Then at dinner I am usually ok to have a salad with my meal. What are you putting in the salad? Maybe its something other than the lettuce?

Hope you get it figured out,

Deanna

I cannot tolerate bread at all. I don't even try anymore because I have experienced some horrible stuck moments trying. As far as salad I am good if I chew, chew, chew, if not I am in trouble. meat is one of those things I have to be really careful with because sometimes I can tolerate and sometimes I can't. I just have to remind myself to take my time and chew.

As far as restaurants go , most are very willing to give you a substitute such as veggies. If they want your buisness bad enough they will.

Good luck to you!

i can eat bread and meat in very small bites. Like the size of a bean if i take anything bigger then that i get bad pain. So i just take my time and eat very slow. I can eat some breads better then others. Flatbread and wraps go down just fine with a sandwich but soft bread from a loft does not go down too well.

I can do bread in small amounts and I have no problem with meat...most meats that is...not Thick dense meats though...

But I CANNOT do lettuce. I cant manage to chew it up enough to get it to pass. So if they give me a salid I eat the tomatoes...with out skins lol celery, cucumbers, crutons and everything else they put with it...maybe some of the crunchy parts of the lettuce but not much.

I eat vegtables just not lettuce. So I dont see it as being unhealthy. there is not that many nutrients in lettuce anyway. lol

I can eat bread, but only if I toast it first and even then I have to be careful (small bites, lots of chewing). I've had no problems thus far with any other foods. I currently have

3cc(s) in a 10cc band.

I can eat anything...and have been able to throughout my entire banded journey. I may be able to eat only small portions of bread for example, but I still can. The only times I couldn't it was because I was too tight - which at the time I thought was great for faster weight loss, silly me! I much prefer to eat normal foods, but smaller portions, even if it meant I achieved goal later than others.

So, breads - ok, if chewed well. Any type - toasted or not.

meat - bring it on!

Salads - I love them all.

As for the restaurant question, although I rarely ate out during the weight loss period (too afraid I'd overeat or PB or something - silly me), I do eat out more now. I NEVER have an entree - my meal is the appetizer, and even with that I usually bring home 1/2 of it. However, any resaurant should be willing to oblige a customer on replacing a salad with more veggies - whether you are banded or not! They are providing a service you are paying for.

Good luck....

I can eat salad, but some kinds of lettuce are better than others. I seem to tolerate Romaine lettuce the best. I guess because it's crisper and crunchier? Bib lettuce and green leaf are a no go. No celery either. But everything else seems okay. As for meat, if it's dry or overcooked I can't eat it. If shrimp is overcooked and becomes rubbery, forget it. 3 minutes for shrimp, tops. My steak has to be medium rare. I can't do chicken breast at all. Only dark meat now. It's much more moist. If meat is dry, it has to have a sauce or gravy of some kind. the health food store has fat free gravy in resealable boxes that comes in real handy. Bread.... I can eat bread if it's either toasted crisp, or if it's grainy. Soft bread like white bread or french bread gives me fits. It turns to a glue like ball in my pouch and sits there yelling at me for hours. I rarely eat sandwhiches anymore, but on the rare occasion I do, it's on 100% whole wheat toast or a chunky multi grain bread.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
