What negative physical symptoms do you experience

Recommended Posts

Hi- could you please tell me what negative physical symptoms you experience when you overeat? I can eat a six inch turkey sub from subway with no problems. That is outside the 3/4 to 1 C of food that is recommended. I have no negative side effects. Should I? or is this the part where I have to take ownership and measure and only eat the 3/4 to 1 C. I am so curious what others experience if they overeat.

Just because you can eat more than you've been told you should doesn't mean it's okay. A Subway sandwich is way too much bread! You need to be eating 3 oz or so of Protein and then vegetables. Not 45 or so grams of carbohydrates.

I was really looking for an answer- not permission. I know the rules- just trying to figure this out with a little advice from others with experience. So I take it from your response you have never experienced any negative symptoms from overeating? If you ate, for example, four oz. of Protein and a few extra crowns of brocolli do you experience any negative symptoms?

I do experience negative symptoms from eating certain foods. For example, if I took one bite of that subway sub I would have my head in the toilet for awhile! It depends upon the restriction you have. Before I got restriction--about 1-5 months after banding--I could def. eat that with NO PROBS. Thank God, I now have the restriction!!

Hi:

I would have pain in my chest first, and then I would regurgitate everything I ate if I tried to eat a six inch sub. Ouch! Haven't had any subs for more than two years because I know it doesn't work for banded people.

I can eat one slice of pizza as long as I eat small bites at a time and chew the heck out of it.

I love my band and my new flat tummy!

So that is where my confusion lies- at times I can sit down and eat a six inch sub and at other times the first bite leads me to an hour of splitting up clear liquid. I thought that this was more of an issue related to not chewing well and that it wasn't related to restriction. Maybe I am wrong. It is the inconsistency that gets me all confused.

Hello Contemplating,

At the point that I was able to eat a 6" sub I had very little restriction. Once you have good restriction I guarantee you that you will NOT be able to eat a 6" sub.

With good restriction, I am not able to eat bread at all and if I eat one bite too much of anything I will spend the next 30 minutes or so running to the bathroom to throw-up. I am generally finished eating after about 4-5 bites.

Once you reach proper restriction you will have definite consequences with over-eating.

Hope this helps. Good luck to you!

I can eat a 6in sub from subway but it has to be on the Flat bread. I have really good restricition too. I weighed it one time to see how much it weighed and it only weighed 7 oz which is less then a cup but again i only get it on flatbread and i only get a little bit of lettuce on it so it isn't very big. I can eat about 1 cup at all meals no more or i get pain in my chest and i am very happy with that i don't want to be so tight i can't enjoy life and i have lost 53lbs since i was banded May 12.

I have wide fluxiations in my band. The week before my period I can eat almost anything...I have almost No restriction for about 4 days...then the 3 days of my period I can ONLY drink Protein shakes and Soup. And then the other weeks it eases back till I can eat anything then back to nothing...and the cycle continues. My Dr and I are keeping a log of it. I dont know if it is the moon or my period cycle. but we are noting how I can eat every day. I am an extreme case.

Nothing is wrong with my band...it is my body.

BUT when I over eat I either will PB or I will just ache for a while.

After almost 2 years, I can tell you that yes, sometimes I experience physical discomfort when I don't follow the rules. Unlike other posters though, I can eat anything - including breads - but only small portions. If I eat too fast (first bite syndrome) or eat too much, I have a constant dull pain in my chest. Now, I am usually given a 'warning' - for me my nose will start to run, and that means 'stop now you fool or you'll be sorry!'. If however I ignore this, thats when I get the pain. I RARELY PB or slime, but have the pain that takes 15-20 minutes to pass.:scared2:

There is no food that I cannot eat - it is only the volume issues that I have.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
