b9409 1 Posted October 12, 2009 We all know that Protein is a must with the lapband and in helping cope with hunger. And, we all know pretty much know what Protein is. But, I was wondering what people's personal protein suggestions are. Are there things that you eat that help you stay full longer? A particular kind of protein (or combonation) that tastes really good? I am running out of ideas about what to eat that is protein dense, but tastes good and keeps me full. What works for you guys?? SmilinShel 0 Posted October 12, 2009 Hi, I have had great success with Perdue Shortcuts. They come in several "flavors", are all natural and very moist. I eat 2-3 oz and they keep me full for quite a while. I pay 4.99 for a package and get 3-4 meals out of it! If I am hungrier, I will add a couple strips of teh southwestern type to refried Beans and melt a little cheese on top.
NoName-AZ 0 Posted October 12, 2009 I make turkey burgers no bread of course, and any kind of bean. I like pintos and cheese. Use the 1cup ziplock bowls. Put it all in the bowl for measuring, then back on the plate. That is all Protein. Its great.
ParrotheadCathy 0 Posted October 12, 2009 I've been told by my doc to not drink Protein shakes because liquid passes through the stomach rather quickly and as a result there isn't a prolonged feeling of satiety. So I stopped drinking Protein Shakes completely and I am doing much better, especially in the mornings when I would find myself starving to death at about 10:30 AM. What Proteins do I like? Low fat cottage cheese has plenty of Protein. Low fat cheese. eggs. Any meat (cooking methods chosen to accommodate what works for me), such as lean ground beef patties grilled (no more done than medium rare for me) but no bun. Greek yogurt (I don't like regular yogurt). Solid protein takes a while to be digested so it stays in your pouch longer, so it makes you feel full longer. Ditch the shakes. I was hooked on them, especially for breakfast because of the convenience. But taking the time to prepare solid food pays off by you being full longer. Season them up and fry them in olive oil, add a piece of mozz cheese. Its fantastic!

Apples2 19 Posted October 12, 2009 Great solid Protein ideas. I have never gotten into the Protein Shakes and solid protein keeps a person feeling full for sometimes up to 4-5hours. I am on the run a lot and sometimes traveling at meal time. I carry "meals" and Snacks in my truck for times like that. Worlds Kitchen beef Jerky, dried edamame, dried soynuts, Pure Protein Bars and Myoplex Lite protien bars. The bars are a quick fit for getting protein but, beware, do not keep a person full for very long. I eat these for breakfast when I am tight. The soynuts and edamame fill me up just like solid protein does.
ceves2 0 Posted October 12, 2009 I snack on Edamame in the afternoon to get a little extra Protein in.
tanqueray 16 Posted October 13, 2009 I should have put this in my post earlier...I use the "Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery" Cookbook. All the recipes are high in Protein, low in fat and I have LOVED everything I have made. (especially the chicken Artichoke Soup) I really recommend this cookbook. The recipes enable me to eat more, only occassionally have a shake, and get all my protein needs in with tasty food.< /p>
