soukumup73 0 Posted October 12, 2009 Hi everyone-this posting thing is new to me  I am 36 and have been working towards surgery all year, my date is set for Nov 25th, but I finally met with the dr. and he was really negative about the band. Where I work and with my insurance, I have to use him, but all he kept saying is how the band is a pain in the butt.. they really push the bypass surgery and that scares me. I was very disappointed and needed to find a good support group and this place looks good. I'm going to do this surgery for me...and am excited about all the good weight loss I've seen on here... I wish everyone the best of luck!!!
AngieW_RN 0 Posted October 12, 2009 It sounds like your doctor is not making the best choice of words. It is is job, however, make sure you know about both procedured. Statistically, people lose much more weight with a bypass, and it is basically a cure for type II diabetes. However, this takes into accound all patients of all motivation levels. Research dosen't know you and your personality. If lap band is what you think is right for you, make sure you get the support you need!
happy2lose 0 Posted October 12, 2009 My healthcare provider was also very negative about the band. They pushed the gastric bypass surgery as well. I did not want the bypass for reasons I will refrain from stating. Because I wanted the band and my provider refused to do it, I went to Mexico and self-paid for my surgery. It wasn't until I arrived in Mexico that I heard of the sleeve procedure. Knowing what I know now, I wish I had the sleeve. Don't get me wrong, the band is working for me but long-term I feel the sleeve would have been a better choice.
lindas0809 0 Posted October 13, 2009 My surgeon pushed RNY for me as well because I had over a hundred pounds to lose and was diabetic. At the time I felt really ganged up on, but I realize now she was giving me the medical facts. It was my job to do my research and convince her that I was ready to commit to the band and was adamant about not wanting RNY. I would just say do your homework and stay strong. Good luck!!
