Average guy success?!

Recommended Posts

I'm not much for posting and blogging. I did read alot on this site before and after my surgery. I was always very inspired by the before and after success stories with pictures. It occurred to me that I should give back and post mine. I hope they will encourage someone.

I was big every day of my life. I was born 10.5lbs and just ran with it

I finally realized that you can BS everyone else, but you can't BS yourself. I knew that even though I wasn't extremely obese, I was never going to be able to do it on my own. I knew I would only get heavier. I had never exercised 1 day of my life. I had made the worst food choices I could make. I knew why I was fat. Hell, I'm surprised I wasn't bigger!

Since the surgery, I have truly become a new person. I run 5 days a week. I watch calories very closely. I eat anything and everything but I always try to keep below 2000 calories a day.

I am currently training to run the Las Vegas Marathon on December 6th. I have no doubts I will complete it!

I have encouraged others in my life to run and eat healthier. It feels great to be in a position where people actually listen when I give weight advice.

It's been said before but I will repeat it again...this was the best thing I have ever done!!!

Life is too short to live overweight, unhealthy and miserable.

Thanks to everyone who posts here for being my silent support group.

Ramze

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
