My band hurts - why?

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of a blocked stoma, but liquids are passing slowly. I put a call into my doc but he didn't call back. I already know that any one of my 9 band surgeons will all say the same thing, which is what Alex said. Liquids for a few days, then we'll see. Though I did get lump-in-the-throat from 2 S/F ice pops. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

I think something must be in the air, I've been feeling stomach soreness for a lil while now too. Does anyone know what the symptoms are for band slippage? I have central abdominal soreness/burning. food is going down about the same as usual. It was flared up really tender in the abdominal region a week ago for about 2 days. I could barely walk upright, but rest reduced it to a constant soreness that I don't feel unless I sit or lay wrong. WTF could it be? I didn't over-eat that I know of, no recent pb's (over a month since last one), no reflux... weird.

DeLarla - sorry to hear you are going through this uncomfortable time. I think I know about that feeling in your throat. I'm not sure. Try to sleep...that's what I do everytime I feel like the day and the band discomfort is too much.

Rene, I could hurl my low sodium broth all over this thread right now. A damn Coke would make me feel great. I have a very ugly mean look on my face right now. I didn't get sick till I gave the crap up. My band misses goodies.

Sounds like withdrawals to me. Your band can live fine w/o that crap--it's your HEAD that's having trouble with it. You are a powerful woman and perfectly capable of referring your frustration and craving into pain & tightness in your band.

Being sick does NOT give you permission to go back to the coke etc. It's not going to help the problem and it's just gonna make you pissed-off at yourself later.

I'm not sure I can even imagine you doing it... but girl, ya gotta reeeellaxxx. I mean bigtime--meditation. Put your head on Sachi's tummy and breath to her doggie vibes.

Lisa,

Checking to see how you are doing??? I know it's hard but stay on liquids and if you need somthing like previcide they come in Solutabs so you would not have to drink a Coke to help it go down..

Sending you good ((((((((((vibes))))))))))))

Michelle, I didn't make it home till 5am the next morning because I went dancing with my Slumber sisters and burned 9 billion calories; then we went to Breakfast at 3:00 a.m. so I walked away and drank ice tea (can you believe that?)

However, the next night I went too long without eating, then had some cocktails at the show, then at midnight was starving. I walked through the casino looking for a bag of popcorn or anything to fill my pouch and ended up at a Mexican counter. So I had chips and salsa with an appetizer that was sooooooo good. That's when I overdid it, and woke up in the middle of the night hurting.

Today I'm not sure yet. I had a rough night trying to cough the clog out of my throat. I took today off work. First thing I did was drink a small bottle of Water to see what happened. Normally I hear the gurgle of the Water going through within a minute, but yesterday I never gurgled at all. Today it took about 15 minutes for the water to go through. Most of the pain and burn was gone, but the water just brought a hint of the burn back. I think if I stay on liquids then I might heal, but I'm calling Dr. Billy later. I called yesterday but nobody called back.

I have the clogged throat really bad, too. Like flem glued to the back of my throat that chokes me.

The good news is that yesterday my belly wasn't making and noise, and today it's talking up a storm. I'll keep you updated. Thanks everyone for being here.

Alex, if I lose a pound over this, I'm holding you accountable!

Kare, keep kicking my ass. I want a Coke so bad, but I won't give in. But my symptoms are positively physical this time. I have a headache and I'm lethargic because of quitting the addiciton, but this band problem is real.

Rene, keep kicking my butt. I need it! Thanks for keeping me of Coke yesterday.

Pam, call your doc. If I have to, you have to!

Everyone else, thanks so much. I couldn't wait to see if you were all here, makes me feel a little better.

Lisa, you really DON'T want a Coke!! Think about your poor, sore esophagus and stoma. The poor tissues need to REST and recover, not be further irritated by carbonation! Stick to smooth, comforting, restful things like cream Soups, Protein shakes, frozen things that melt into liquid (i.e., not butter pecan ice cream). In a few days you'll be good as new!!

You know that when you talk with a doctor he will recommend an unfill. It would definitely help, but without a port is that a realistic option? So you have no choice but to treat yourself, and I mean really BABY your system. Do it for an entire week and I'll bet you'll heal. Don't think about what you're missing, just think about your inflamed insides and how you can best repair them.

Way to go Lisa! Made it through the night without a coke!! Woohoo! Maybe you are having drainage and it is clogging you up. Have you had any allergies other than the goup in the throat? I am having to do liquids right now since I think my band it too tight with allergies, I could not have lived this past week without the Light Caramel Mocha Frappachino from Starbucks. It really soothes the stoma and only 240 calories. Keep us posted.

Alex, an unfill is not an option. I'm not closed completely, so there's nothing I can do but baby it. If it shut down completely, I'd have to go to ER and explain that the only band surgeon in town is Barry Fisher, who would have to remove the band. Heaven only knows where that would lead or how they'd treat me, so my only choice is to baby it.

Kim, yes, I do have bad allgergies today, which is compounding the problem. I can tell the difference between allergies though, because I had them prior to banding. Allergies will cause flem, but they never choked me like good old band flem does!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
