Stuck Sushi Situation

Recommended Posts

I thought I would get your attention with an alliteration!!

Tonight I went for a fab sushi dinner the #1 rated restaurant in Colorado...and the seaweed paper got stuck....as I ran to the restroom I was holding my hand over my mouth. Just wanted to give people a heads up...it was my first serious stuck experience...

I too get stuck on seaweed in sushi. There is a restaurant here in Tampa that will do sushi in a rice paper. It is wonderful. I actually like it better because I can taste the fish and other ingredients better. I wonder if your restaurant has that available to you? It may be worth asking......

Good Luck

Deanna

I agree with davighd, I too now stick to Sashimi, Much easier to chew into smaller bites!

Unfortunately tempura also goes down like a dream – but have to stay away from deep fried food!

Have you tried nigiri? It's a clump of hand rolled sushi rice with the fish on top. No seaweed. Super fabulous.

I have an allergy to things out of the Water so I actually only eat Veggie Sushi or beef which they make at my local restaurant. Today I went again and had a veggie roll and actually spit the nori into my napkin in a discrete manner. Not an ideal situation however I still loved it.

There is a roll called Kanisu and actually it is typically crab, shrimp, avocado and sometimes some veggies wrapped in very thin cucumber. IT IS AMAZING! There is no rice or seaweed. Also, sometimes the restaurants that serve kanisu will make other rolls for you wrapped in cucumber instead of rice and seaweed (but call ahead to see). I used to LOVE sushi, but I like Kanisu even better - it is so refreshing and light and you can taste the fish inside. Its really amazing and much healthier than sticky rice, and much easier to go down!

Oh yummmm, my favorite food. I do sashimi mostly but I do eat hand rolls, seaweed and all. Have to be careful with tako....must chew well and take small bites.

Guess what I'm having for lunch tomorrow......yipee!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
