What can this be....

Recommended Posts

I am too tired to read through all the previous post. I am 4 days post op and I have been walking around my block twice a day but I still have this strange pressure in my chest ever so often that almost takes my breath away. My incision sites are pain free except port site that one still gets me if i cough or strain. Does anyone have an Idea what the pressure is? I have taken gas x with no relief.

Have you called your doctor? Remember, after surgery people are at risk for a blood clot. My suggestion, call the hospital where you had the surgery and speak with the surgeon on call. Ask your question and get an answer so you can know if this is serious or not. Chest pressure is nothing to play around with. The on-call surgeon may say it's nothing but better safe then sorry.

I had the same pains and pangs in my chest. It hurt to even take a deep breath. It was gas, even though I thought it wasn't and it did go away. It gotter better slowly and then the one day I was like "wait, where's my chest pains?" and it was gone. Thank goodness. :o Just keep moving and give it some more time.

A friend of mine and I have a rule. When the other suggests calling a doctor, we do it.

I think if someone here who has been through the same surgery suggests calling your doc, you probably should:

1. that's why we pay them

2. peace of mind

3. risk / reward (calling costs nothing...not calling could be trouble)

So...call. What can it hurt?

Like the others have said, I would call the doctor just to be on the safe side. I was/am having the same thing and called my doc, they said it was probably just gas pains and that it should go away but to call if it doesn't or gets worse...and it is easing up!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
