Restriction, stuck or what?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I had my 3rd fill two weeks ago and have little restriction. I do get stuck often, which leads me to eat less, but I am still hungry. I am hoping with my next fill I will reach my sweet spot. I do have some questions, though. What is the difference between stuck and restricted? When you get stuck, what actually happens? Should we want to get stuck so food stays in the pouch. What keeps the food in the pouch, if it is too big, it would get stuck, which is what we want so the pouch stays full? It confuses me. I know we have the pouch so it fills up and food stays in there and we eat less, but what keeps the food in, a small opening, therefore stuck. I do not mean to go on and on, but I do not understand the difference between stuck and restricted. I really feel stupid at times. Thanks.

Think of your stomach as an hour glass and the center as the banded area (stoma). The sand in an hour glass should flow through at a slow and steady pace, but if a chunk of sand gets stuck in the middle, it has to either work its way through or come back up. The food you eat should flow in a similar manner.

With good restriction your food should not be getting stuck. The flow of food should be reduced to give you a feeling of satiety. The nerves that send your brain the signal that you're full is at the top of your stomach, so that nerve has to be simulated.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
