Can my goals be achieved?

I live in Australia, I am booked for surgery on feb 26th next year.

I have been reading books, following blogs and this web site as i learn and prepare for my lap band.

I am getting married in Nov next year and was a little concerned of how much weight i could lose by then, so i decided to do a goal list as follows:

FRI 26th FEB: Operation Day (hoping to be 105kgs on day of surgery after losing about 5kgs on pre-op diet)

4 WEEKS LATER ON FRI 26TH MARCH: Goal = 100kgs= 5KG Loss 1.3KG Loss a week needed to achieve this.

5 WEEKS LATER ON FRI 30TH APRIL: Goal= 95kgs= 5kg loss, 1kg a week needed to achieve this.

6 WEEKS LATER ON FRI 11th JUNE: Goal= 90kgs= 5kg loss, .9kgs a week needed to achieve this. (just before my b'day :thumbup:)

7 WEEKS LATER ON FRI 30TH JULY: Goal= 85kgs= 5kg loss, .7kgs a week needed to achieve this.

4 WEEKS LATER ON FRI 27TH AUGUST: Goal= 82kgs= 3kg loss, .8kg a week needed to achieve this.

4 WEEKS LATER ON FRI 24TH SEPTEMBER: Goal= 79kgs= 3kg loss, .8kg a week needed to achieve this.

5 WEEKS LATER ON FRI 29TH OCTOBER: Goal= 75kgs= 4kg loss, .8kg a week needed to achieve this.

3 WEEKS LATER ON FRI 19TH NOVEMBER (THE DAY BEFORE OUR WEDDING :tt1:): Goal= 72kgs= 3kg loss, 1kg a week needed to achieve this.

MY FINAL GOAL IS 65 KGS....

I AM JUST WONDERING WHAT YOU THINK? DO YOU THINK I CAN MEET THESE? HAVE I AIMED TOO HIGH/ NOT HIGH ENOUGH? ESPECIALLY AS MOST OF YOU HAVE BEEN THERE :tt2: THANKS

Hi:

I really don't know how to convert to the metric system, but I can tell you that on average bandsters lose 1 - 2 pounds per week, so in a year a person can lose between 50 to a hundred pounds.

Personally speaking. The day that I saw my surgeon in 2007 I weighed in at 324. One year later I was at 199.

If you start now you'll have a better chance of being thinner for your wedding. I lost 38 pounds in the three months before my banding because I knew it would make my surgery safer and I was so tired of carrying all of the weight around.

Hi, difficult to say if you will achieve it or not.In the beginning you tend to lose fairly quickly, then it slows down a bit and of course there are the dreaded plateaus.If you work on 1llb a week which is the low average weekly weight loss then that is just under.5kg per week. you may lose more - you may lose less. A lot will depend on how you stick to the eating recommendations, how much you exercise etc. And don't forget there is a period after banding before you reach your optimum fill level(sweet spot) when you may not lose at all because at that point you don't really have any restriction.

Where in Vic are you and who is your Dr. i live in Ballarat and was banded in June by Peter Nottle.

First congrats on your coming up wedding!

It is hard to say like others said. My weight loss is fluctuate, some week I lost a lot and some week didn't lose any at all. Some people lost weight even without fill (bandster hell), some starting to lose when they are at their sweet spots. From what I see, on this board, there are fast loser, steady loser and slow loser, even if you do exact same thing. You just have to find what work best for you. For example, I have to eat between 1100 -1200 calories to lose but others don't count calories but have to do low carb. Just try your best and you will do fine :-)

For myself, I was banned about 5.5 months ago and did the pre op about 3 weeks prior the surgery. I started out at 105 kilos, day of surgery 95 kilos and 5.5 month out I am at 75 kilos.

After I looked up a lbs to kgs converter to see what your expectations are, I will be frank with you and say it seems a little aggressive to me. IMO, don't expect to lose too much the first 4-6 weeks after being banded. You are healing, have swelling and most of your weight loss during that period will be of your own doing and not the band. You can lose weight without restriction, but many people stay and same weight or even gain a few lbs until the first fill. For me, it took until my fourth fill to get proper restriction and that was almost 4 months after my surgery. I lost weight each month, but it was a combination of changing what I ate and more activity.

The more you lose, the slower your weight loss will more than likely be. If you increase your activity, strictly eat healthy foods and watch your calories, and increase your activity as your weight loss slows, you will have the greatest chance of success. (Sounds like a diet doesn't it?). It's very hard to have a finite time frame to lose weight with the band, because everyone reacts differently to it.

It seems a little aggressive to me if you are going to wait until February.

You could probably do it if you started dieting today and just aimed at losing 1-2 kg a week until your surgery.

If i could lose 1-2 kilos a week on my own i wouldn't need lap band would I?!!!! :)

Well, you may. I can and have lost 108 pounds (49 kg) in a matter of 18 months through diet and exercise. Only to gain 128 pounds (58 kg) back in half that time.

I am hoping that the Lapband will help me keep any weight that I lose off.

What I was trying to say is don't wait until February and hope you lose enough. Get a headstart and make the odds better. :eek:

I completely understand what you are saying, and I know i should start now and get a head start, i would be happy even if i lost 5 kilos from now until feb, i even joined jenny craig but it just got to expensive so i gave it up. I want to lose weight before the surgery but in my head i just keep thinking, it's okay i'm having lapband surgery soon.... I know i shouldn't think like that but i can't get passed it.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive).
