Band Intolerance or Irritable Bowel Syndrome???

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!. I have not been on for a long time. I actually needed to reregister, it has been that long.

I was banded 11/04/06

First Fill 12/31/06

second fill Feb/07

pre band weight 225

total weight lost 40lbs

current weight 194.5

1 month prior to my surgery my gal bladder was removed, result of all the pre op testing etc...

Jan of 07 while in Disney, I became ill immediately after eating luch. ( was not food poisning)

Over the next few months, I would have attacks. 20 min after I ate I would have severe lower abd pain, relieved by a BM. These attacks would last for a few hrs. This went on for several months. Colonoscopy- neg endoscpoy- ned

food allergy testing- neg, celiacs- neg

I take lactose pills before I eat, sometime dairy affects me.

After several years of this fustration, and only having 2 fills, i am at the point of thinking of having the band removed.

I became so afraid to receive fills due to the GI issues. My Dr. said that you may have tolerance issues with the band, but not like this. I dont PB unless I eat bread or rice too quickly.

I am told that this is all in my head. I need so suggestions. Has anyone ever expierenced anything like this? Could it be the band or Irritable Bowel Syndromes, and if so could that be caused from the band?

Shoulld I see my Dr. who i have not seen in over a year, and have him unfill me, then start the fills all over again and really stick to it?

Or do I see if the insurance will cover the cost for the removal????

I am losing sleep over this. I am cranky all the time. My husband is wonderful, but he can only take so much. My daugthers, 5&7 tell me it is ok for me to stay home if my belly hurst again....

Sorry so long. I quess I needed to get 2 years of holding it in to my self out......

Thanks for taking the time to read and post yout thoughts..

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
