What happens when you reach your optimal weight?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I am new to this site. I have been overweight for a long time and a physicians asst friend of mine suggested the lap band.

I am going to one of the seminar deals on Wednesday but I had a few questions before then.

So you get the surgery and you lose all kinds of weight. What happens when you reach your ideal weight? Do they have to remove the band or do you have to live your entire life eating super small portions?

Thanks all, I am sure that I will have many more questions.

Yes, it stays in forever...and yes, you'll be eating smaller portions for life. As you get close to your goal weight your weight loss usually slows way down so when you reach goal you'll be eating a tiny bit more, but just enough so you're not continuing to lose, but maintain. In other words you'll be eating like a skinny person to stay skinny! Best wishes in starting your journey and keep asking those questions! Welcome to LBT! -BG

I wish I had known about this site pre-op. The people here are so helpful and there is loads of information. Read as many posts as you can between now & your seminar. Jot down any questions you have and when you go to seminar, make sure you ask them.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
