I'm not required by my insurance or doc to do a pre-op liquid fast, but since the first week after surgery is Clear Liquids, I figured I'd better find something now that I know I can drink.

In the past, I've used Slim Fast low carb, but it only has 10gm of Protein per can and I understand the Protein is a big *must*.

So last night I went out and bought a sample box of Isopure and a 1 lb pkg of the Isopure Dutch chocolate powder. I had a glass of the chocolate for Breakfast and took a sip of my son's mango something or other just to try it.

I have to say the mango something was pretty good. I could definitely drink it for a meal.

The dutch chocolate was palatable. It's thinner than slim fast, but this doesn't seem to take away from it at all.

I probably won't even check out the Muscle Milk or other recommendations since I was quite pleased with the Isopure.

I tried the Isopure -- blue raspberry I think it was, two days before my surgery. It tasted pretty good (smelled kind of funny though) and with 40g Protein per bottle, I wish I'd bought more of it then. Two days out of surgery all I've been able to get down has been a lot of Water, a little broth and peach sf Jell-O. Not hungry at all.

Having Mom drive me over to the Vitamin Shoppe today to stock up on this product!

I've been drinking the Isopure fluit flavors while I'm on my post-op clear liquid diet. Its not bed, a lot like gatorade, it is pretty expensive though ($4 and some change for 20 oz) but since i can only sip on 4 oz at a time, it take me all day to drink it. Tomorrow I get to advance to full liquids so I can have my Unjury shakes again--I love them!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
