chatty826 4 Posted October 8, 2009 I dont know what my preop diet will consist of yet. But I am worried because I have been eating well and working out but I still need to eat a good amount. I eat less and then am still starving. I dont have a problem with eating more then (healthy) because I feel my body needs it and its not over eating. When I am working out 1 to 2 hours a day I cant eat like a rabbit. My question is what did your preop diet consit of? I know they say liquids starting 10/15 and surgery is 10/29. Did you get a big dinner with just liquid Breakfast and lunch? I would like to keep my workout momentum that way I don't slack too much just cause I had surgery. Thanks!!! HDmama 0 Posted October 8, 2009 Hi....my surgery is scheduled for 10/22. I started my liquid diet today. I think all docs are different, but my doctor says a full liquid diet (1000 cal/day), so no solid food - at all. The following items are on my list - Protein drinks (2x day), low fat cream Soups (2 x day), sf Jello, sf pudding, light and fit yogurt (4 oz). I've obviously just started, but it hasn't been too bad for me. I had a Protein Drink for Breakfast (which I've been doing for a while now anyway), and I had a cup of Tomato Soup for lunch and a sf pudding - I'm supposed to have an afternoon snack of another Protein shake, and then for dinner I plan on having another cup of Soup. I don't think I'm going to make it to 1000 calories today:confused:
ElfiePoo 109 Posted October 8, 2009 My insurance company did not require a medically supervised diet before they approved me. I just found out today that I will not be required to follow any special diet before surgery other than the usual 'nothing after midnight'. I think I'm still going to do a liquid fast for a week prior to surgery just because, in the past, a week long liquid fast made me feel less 'bloated'...which can't hurt going into any surgery. . ParrotheadCathy 0 Posted October 8, 2009 The pre-op diet differs dramatically from doctor to doctor. Some require NONE. Others require as much as a month of liquid only. And there's every combination you can imagine in between. My pre-op diet consisted of two whey-protein shakes per day and two lean meal that consisted ONLY of 3 oz of lean Protein and a steamed or raw vegetable. No carbs like bread or potatoes or whatever. And the shakes were a product that I bought from my doctor's office. The goal is not necessarily lose weight but to shrink your liver before surgery so that the doctor has as much room as possible in which to maneuver when he is putting the band in place. My pre-op diet reallyl wasn't bad at all. I had a Protein shake for breakfast, food for lunch and dinner, and a Protein Shake late in the afternoon as a snack.< /p>
Deekel 0 Posted October 9, 2009 It's true that every Dr. is different and if you have any questions or concerns you should feel free to call him/her and ask what exactly they require. Mine has me on three whey Protein Shakes a day, one piece of fruit and grilled chicken and salad for dinner. I have to say, it really hasn't been bad. The Protein shakes actually fill me and he has me add a lot of ice to thicken them quite a bit. I add my piece of fruit to my morning shake and have choco/banana (yum!). I have a fairly large salad at dinner too- only veggies and balsamic vinegar. Hope that helps, and good luck to you!!
Soexcited 64 Posted October 9, 2009 Hollywood and I are about the same. I have to do 3 weeks liquid. Less than 1,000 cal a day ... 2 Protein Shakes ... one yogurt ... one serving of fat free Jello pudding ... sugar free popsicles ... and clear broth. And ya, its hard to get to 1,000 on that I am on day 7 now and have gotten about 500 to 700 calories a day but I have also lost 10 pounds
