First of all, congratulations on the 17lb weight loss!

The post-op diet varies, but yes, we all had to go through liquids, mushies, then solids. I don't mean to scare you, but stop eating those solids! You're only 6 days out and your stomach is trying to heal. You went through a lot to get this surgery - treat that band right! If you're hungry, eat a Protein Drink. I know it's hard, but you can get through it. And if you must cheat, at least eat a mushy food. There are great suggestions for the different food stages on the food thread.

Good luck!

What your doctor told you for a diet is the standard from what I have read. Granted, I am new to this stuff.. hee hee.. but that is what I heard. I am glad you are feeling better and I am excited about the journey too! I am in the very very beginning stages.. just going to the seminar in November..

Best Wishes!

I feel differently than some about the potato salad b/c on Thursday I saw my doc (this was 6 days out) and he told me to go ahead and eat mushies - I eat potato salad alot now b/c it's so easy to mush up. I would stear clear of the Pasta salad though b/c it could expand in your tummy. Anyways, If I were you I would do what your doc says but every doc is different and I think a spoonful of potato salad is nothing to worry about but you should stick with your doc's regimen from now on! Congrats on the weight loss!

Every Dr.s post op varies but it is important to follow your Dr.'s instructions they are there for a reason, the reason for no solids for 3-4 weeks is so your band anchors into place, if you eat solids too soon you can risk your band slipping since the digestion process is so hard on your stomach with all the turning and churning it has to do to digest the solids. I was on liquids for 4 weeks before I was allowed mushys then 2 weeks after that before I was allowed solids. Congratulations on the weight loss , but do follow the instructions, I would hate to see you jeopardize your band in any way before you are 100% healed. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
