Dr. not keeping track of fill amounts??

Recommended Posts

Just came from my second fill. I found out my dr does not keep track of how much Fluid is in (total)!! Kind of freaked me out!! He said he judges the pressure when he does a fill.

Is this a common practice??

I've heard that some doctors don't like to tell their patients how much saline they've put in, because they don't want them to obsess over the numbers, but I've never heard of a doctor that didn't keep track himself.

My doctor does not like to tell his patients how much he puts in at each fill. But, I am going to insist because I feel I have the right to know what is going on with my body.

I've never heard of that. In fact, my doctor withdrawls ALL the Fluid each time, measures and inspects it, and then refills me. This is to account for any abnormalities, such as leaks or breaks.

wow!! my dr gives us a card.. I got mine when I did my education class, which was 2 wks before my surgery... they weighed me and wrote that on the card.... and every time I go in for a fill, they weigh me, write it down on the card and then put down how many CC's they put in and the total number of CC's... and I keep this card....

You absolutely have the right to know and should be insistent - or - ask for a copy of your medical records, they are required by law to provide those.

As someone else mentioned, your doc should also be withdrawing everything in the band at each appointment and measuring it. If you develop a leak, this is the only way to find out.

Hmm, they have to be keeping track somehow? I would absolutely insist that they tell you, or at least show you how many cc's they draw up every time. They need to know how much is in there -- I have 10.1cc's in an 11cc band and I'm only 10 weeks post-op. I'm getting close to band capacity already with a long way to go for my weight loss. Without someone keeping track they could just keep going and going.
