What I can tolerate varies now and then. I have the hardest time with beef. Fish is a breeze. chicken is fine as long as it is tender & juicy. Same goes for pork. I had braised oxtail a week or so ago, and it was just fine (but it was slow cooked and amazing. . at a Mario Battali restaurant)! :wink2:

I actually haven't had a steak or a burger in ages because I don't cook them at home and am wary of ordering them in restaurants because I don't want to get stuck and have that ruin the meal.

Hope that helps!

Catherine

I eat dark meat chicken mostly with some kind of sauce. I also eat hamburgers, chewing carefully. I have even had a steak but ate real slow and spit out any gristle that was still in my mouth after chewing (not something I would like to do in a restaurant. I eat tons of fish. But I had a terrible case of being stuck on a piece of skirt steak. It was mighty tasty but too stringy and I got stuck for 8 hours. That was a nightmare.

Try cutting your meat into very small bites before eating. This prevents from taking too big of bites and getting stuck.

If I just cut a bite and chew then cut another I become distracted and sometimes forget I have a band (short attention span) and end up taking too big of a bite.

This works for me.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. I mean cut all your meat up at once.

UPPER WEST SIDE - 8 hours. YIKES! You're a trooper. Did you consider going to ER? My worst experience was 4-5 hours of sliming from a scrambeled egg wrap. I felt like the waste basket was welded under my chin. It got me to go for a bit of an unfill, and I have missed 2 fills since.

I have not had any problems with steak or even calamari, probably because I know they can be a problem, so I am careful. I was banded a little over 4 months ago, and due to bad experiences, I am STARTINg to finally remember to chew more and eat slowly. I'm a slow learner, but starting to get it. As they say, better late, than never.

I don't even try eating steak anymore. No matter how small I make it and how slow I eat it, I always end up getting stuck. I do attempt chicken sometimes, but I might have 2 or 3 bites and thats it. Fish is fine. I am basically living on minced meat. I make stirfry's with it, rissoles, shepards pie, meatballs, spag bog w/ vegies, satay's....I will be starting to take my Iron tables more regularly now though, went to the hairdresser today and she asked me if I wasn't eating red meat because the top of my hair has become very thin...I couldn't believe she actually knew that I had stopped eating it. Hmmm...it is hard to get the Iron w/ just mince.

Oh, I am also growing silverbeet/spinich in my garden which I have started to eat everyday to get some iron in too.

I miss my steak :wink2: lol

I eat rotrissie (sp?) chicken and it's always nice & moist. I de-bone it when I get it, put it in small baggies. I also eat fish either baked, grilled or sometimes stir-fried (rarely). I eat grilled boneless pork chops but can't deal with beef in any form or fashion for some reason.

That must have been really miserable to be stuck that long. I find if I take small swallows of Water and bend over as far as possible, I can bring up whatever is stuck with the water. If real bad, I may have to repeat it a few times to get it all up. I could not imagine being stuck that long.

I'm not restricted yet just 4 weeks post op (next week is my fill) - but I was able to eat filet mignon. I did get almost stuck w/ a chicken burger patty. It just wouldn't go down and i had some discomfort but then it went down in 20 mins finally no sliming.

You are experiencing exactly the same thing I am. I can't eat any chicken prepared any way, not even turkey! I haven't eaten steak since the surger, but was never a fan. Pork is very painful for me. I haven't had trouble with ground beef until last night. It made the second night in a row that I got stuck during dinner and ended up just skipping it. I did have a Protein shake once I felt better...just before bed. I HATE fish. However, I've found that I can eat canned tuna with relish and light mayo to cover the fishy taste.

I'm full 6.75 cc, the last fill was 10/2. Since the last fill the meat tolerance is worse, but I'm down 6lbs. It also seems the "wetter" (I know that sounds gross) the meat is the easier it goes down. Try cooking your meats in a crockpot. Just remember if you can't get the meats in, drink the shake...or eat the bars! It won't be forever.

I was banded November 4, 2008 and have lost a total of 56lbs. I was stalled for about 5 months with no weight loss. I knew then I was eating too much, but wasn't ready to face the music until July. I got back on track and have lost a total of 20lbs since then, after a small gain. I'm back in the gym and really feel better than ever. I now weigh less than I did before my first pregnancy ( I have 2 in 10 years). 14 more lbs until I'm under 200!!! I recently have been receiving the compliments now and that helps tremendously!

Don't give up, just get creative!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
