Recommended Posts

Hello all this is my first post i was banded yesturday in the am . I am feeling a lot of pain in my stomach . my surgeon tells my he also repaird a sizable hernia . I am so sour in my stomach i slept around 2 hours if that last night . i was having a really bad back pain probably gas. My electric blanket has helped with that pain. but my stomach is so sour i cant lay down at all without a lot of pain. The only medication for pain i was prescribed was 125mg tylenol with 12mg of codine. but i dont think this is enough. any thoughts out there... thanks

I also had hernia repair. Keeping a big ice pack on my stomach and remembering not to tense up the muscles in the area helped me. Also sipping ice cold liquid will help.

Cold helps with swelling, not heat. All will get better soon. I'm thinking you should already be past the point where you need stronger Rx and they will only give you Constipation to add to the general discomfort.

Of course, I am not a Dr. and only speak from my own experience. If things are worse than that for you, you should call your Dr.

Give your doctor's office a call this morning. They can tell you what to do. No reason to suffer, there is a lot of different types of medicines out there, maybe they can prescribe something else that will work for you.

There is no reason you should suffer in pain, please call your doc in the am to see if they can give you something stronger.

You're only going to have liquids in you for the next two weeks, I doubt you can get much Constipation from that.

Walking can really help any gas pains.

Good Luck dear

Hi and Congratulations on your surgery!

I found that walking helps and I slept in a recliner for the first night or two instead lying flat in bed.

I too had a hernia repaired.

Try sm walks. I know it sounds odd but it helped me.

Take very deep breaths & breathe out, that too helps!

Remember your stomach is empty & you don't want to vomit.

Do not take any medications other than the liquid Tylenol.

They will mk you sick or you can become dependent on them.

I'm no Dr. But, 5 days post op, & feeling great; don't take any chances.

Tough it out, you will be fine, it's too early to panic.

I'm a week out and still have considerable discomfort. OK, Pain. And when my cat jumped up onto my belly today, I thought I'd go thru the roof.I talked to my doc yesterday about it and he said to take warm showers, that would help. I'm taking liquid vicodin and it''s ok, not great, but ok. I didn't have a hernia repair also tho - you have 2 things to hurt from. I just wanted you to know that I know how you;re feeling and give you a big (((HUG)))

Blessings!

Marci

I had surgery Oct 1st. with a hernia repair. The gas was the worst pain, walking helps a lot. Anyhing that moves the diaphram quickly, like yawning or coughing hurt for a while. The last 3 days I have felt more like myself. I am walking a mile or more a day and things are good. The port site incision is still a little sore but no real pain. Good Luck! I am feeling real confident. This liquid diet jumpstart has me down 30lbs with little hunger (real hunger).

I was banded October 1st and today I went out on my own. I went to my follow up appointment - doing very well - and then to a couple of stores. May have overdone it or am responding to the Dr. feeling my stomach but am quite sore this evening! Dr. told me I can have yogurt which was a surprise to me as I am only one week out of surgery. I had a yogurt tonite and it went down just fine. Still sleeping on sofa and taking a pain pill for night. Just want you to know it does get better and it isn't that far off....keep your eye on the prize!!! You'll be feeling great before you know it....take care!

congratulation on your band, I was banded August 19, 2009. After surgery I was in pain too. I couldn't lay down either. What I would do is prop up all the pillows behind me and sleep that way. I couldn't lay down on my back for at-least 4days. I also had a lot of stomach gas. the Tylenol with codeine worked, but it always put me to sleep, within 3days I stopped taking it. I didn't want to sleep all the time. Well I hope you feel better, and good luck..

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
