Am I sposed to be so hungry not even a week out?

Recommended Posts

I truly am physically hungry, pangs and everything. The food commericals on tv are killing me. I'm on a liquid only diet for 4 weeks - and I've found my saving grace: Tomato Soup. I eat 3 oz of it at a time about 4 times a day. But I didn';t think I'd be so hungry so early on. My first fill is Nov 4th - will that help with the hunger?

I can't wait to start eating real food again and I'm not afraid of overearing as I'm full after eating the Tomato Soup. So, do any of you guys recently banded get so hungry, or is it just me?

Blessings!

Marci

PS: Got on the scale today (day #6) and I;;ve lost 7 lbs!! YEAH!)

No, you are not the only one that had those feelings. I am exactly 2 weeks out from being banded. After the first 5 days, I was hungry. I was limited to Clear liquids only and I got real tired of broth and Isopure drinks. I finally called my doc after 7 days and he allowed me to move on to full liquids and some mushies. It is normal to be hungry, especially if you had a 2 week pre-op diet to follow. You are, to put it simply, running on empty. I would caution you tho not to hurry thru the stages. I thought that I was healed enough to eat some baked chicken. That was a mistake! I had immediate chest pains and slime like you wouldn't believe!! I went back immediately to pureed/liquid foods. Guess I am not as smart as I thought I was :) If you are hungry, call the doc and see what he/she recommends.

Good luck and congrats on the weight loss so far.

Congrats on your weight loss so far. As for being hungry, are you also using Jello, yogurt, sf popsicles? Those help with the hunger. Also your Protein shakes and Water.

Hang in there. It will get better. The band isn't a magic weight loss wand. Only a tool for you to use in connection with your own will-power and good food choices.

I'm one week post-op and have been starving since I left the recovery room! I've tried thin cream Soup, yogurt, pudding, Protein Shakes. Even when I can't eat anymore, I still feel the pang of hunger. I'm miserable!

I am 5 days out and hungry! I added chocolate Protein shakes to my routine at day 3 because I couldn't stand it anymore. I can't wait until Friday when I can add creamy Soups. Ohh bring on the creamy Tomato, potato, broccoli, and chicken.

On the positive side, I have lost 15lbs since surgery!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
