Are you referring to sliming? Or productive burping?

I don't know but it sounds almost as unattractive as watching someone chew their meat and then spit it in a napkin because it's too difficult to swallow. It's why I chose not to go the bypass route...but I see a number of people here who have the lap band and do the same.

I'd never heard of 'sliming' or 'productive burping' until I came to this board and am having to rethink the whole lap band thing if this is what I have to look forward to the rest of my life.

Sliming or productive burping are basically the same thing. They can happen if you eat too quickly, too big a bite, don't chew properly or eat too much.

The food gets stuck which generally causes a huge pain in your chest or at least that's what happens to me. I believe some people may not have the pain or may just feel pressure. Your body starts producing extra saliva to try and help the food go down . You can't swallow the saliva so you cough or spit it up. It tends to be thick like slime -hence sliming(slimming is what we are all trying to do)LOL.Sometimes the food comes up others it may eventually go down.Sometimes it is resolved quickly others it can take hours.

It is not something that you do every day and once you have done it once you vow it will never happen again. Unfortunately for a lot of us it does happen again as learning to eat correctly is a big learning curve. As time goes on and you get used to your new style of eating it should happen less and less.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
