Anyone losing weight without any fills?

Recommended Posts

I am just over 3 months post-band and have successfully lost right at 39 lbs since my surgery. I have had no fills and since starting solids, have been able to eat as much as I was able to before the surgery. At my last few appointments I brought this up with my doctor and he thinks that as long as I am losing weight there is no need for a fill. Now don't get me wrong, I am thrilled that I have been able to eat with no problems and lose weight! I guess I'm just worried that I will stretch out my pouch or stop losing, due to being able to eat as much as I have been. I've tried cutting my portions down, and still feel extremely hungry. This last month has been real slow for me as I have only lost about 3 lbs and will see my doctor again next Monday, 10-12-09. I'm wondering if it is now time for a fill or if he still wants to wait and see how I do without a fill. I've been continuing to exercise regulary and count my calories, it's just the amount I'm able to eat really surprises me.

Any weight loss makes me happy and keeps me motivated!

I imagine your doctor will give you a fill at your appointment since your weight loss has slowed to less than 1 lb/week and you're able to eat large portions, unless your portions were very small prior to surgery. It is possible to lose all your excess weight without a fill, but it's unusual. I think it would be helpful to measure the size of your meals so you can give your doctor an accurate gauge of the size of the meals you're eating.

Congratulations on your weight loss so far.

I actually had kind of the same situation happen to me. I had lost about 25 lbs from surgery date to first fill. My first fill was at the end of june of this year. Since then I have continually lost a lot of weight everytime I went back to see him. I wasn't able to eat as much as before surgery but still eating way more than I should have been eating. I was just making the right decisions and would load up on veggies after my Protein. Well, I finally got my second fill on 9-30 after being down a total of 102lbs. So yes it's possible that he won't fill you if you're losing, but I had only lost 12 lbs the last month so he noticed a decline and decided to fill me. With your weight loss drastically dropping he will probably give you a fill next visit.

I have only 2cc in a 10cc band and it is definitely my sweet spot. The last fill I had was in May, and I've lost 12lbs since then. I have absolutely NO issues with any food of any kind, and LOVE it!

The weight loss is slower for me, but the trade off is being able to eat "normally" without taking 100 chews per bite, or sitting over a plate of food for 30 mins as it gets cold and everyone else is done.

My restriction is OK, definitely not as good as if I were more filled, but I am happy where I am and don't plan on getting a fill anytime soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
