What are your daily eating habits?

Recommended Posts

Hey , so I was wondering for people who have had the lap band 6 months or longer, what are your daily eating habits? How have they changed? Do you measure your food? Any recipies you love that you want to share?

I have had my band since June and I am trying to teach myself how to eat differently. I still eat basically the same foods, just not as much of it. But it is so hard to change my cooking habits. I wish there was a cooking class for weight loss surgery patients. Anyway, I was just wondering if we could compare some of our new eating rituals. I know we are all different but we might get some new ideas.

Unless your diet was very unhealthy prior to surgery then this is not a problem as this is what the band is designed to do - make us eat less. If your diet was basically healthy before then you shouldn't have to change anything and you shouldn't need special cooking classes.

I was banded in June the same as you and I am cooking and eating the same kind of meals as I did previously.I don't see why I should suddenly start cooking differently - I want meals that the whole family can eat.

The main difference between now and previously for me is that I don't eat all the junk inbetween meals.I don't constantly have my hand in the cookie jar, I don't eat a daily chocolate bar etc.

I still eat Cereal, bread,Pasta, rice, veggies, meat, fruit(rarely) and all the other things that should be included in a balanced diet.

Here is my typical day:

Breakfast: 1/2 cup of Greek unflavored yogurt sweetened w/Splenda & 2 tablespoons granola.

Lunch: McDonalds 3-piece chicken Selects w/dipping sauce

Dinner: Small portion of whatever my family eats.

If I get hungry between meals, I sometimes snack on lowfat cheese or a couple of cups of popcorn.< /p>

Breakfast: 1 fried egg with 1 slice of cheese OR 1/2-3/4 of a Chick fil A chicken biscuit

lunch Usually a Campbells Soup at Hand, because I am a teacher who must eat with the students so I have maybe 10 minutes eating time (not nearly enough to eat properly); about once a week I bring a small container of leftovers to heat and eat

Snack: peanut butter/choc chip chewy bar

Snack: Starbucks Venti non-fat Caramel Mocha (2 pumps of mocha, 4 pumps sf caramel, no whip)

Dinner- whatever is cooked, just a cup or less of it.

ex: pastalaya, spaghetti, pizza (1 thin slice) chili, hamburger steak, gumbo, etc.

I consistently eat 1200-1500 calories per day; I journal using fitday.com to keep track of my calories. It keeps me honest.

I eat the same way I did, only with Portion Control and without between meal Snacks.

I appreciate the wisdom behind eating 6 small meals a day but the truth is for me, I dont stick with it, I just keep eating. I'm better to just BAN eating between meals and not do it.

So 3 meals a day - I normally cook from scratch and I always did, and basically healthy meals so my family routine has not changed at all.

For Breakfast I eat things like oatmeal, Cereal, toast

lunch sandwiches, salads, Soups, or dinner leftovers

dinner - meat and 3 veg type meals (roasts, barbecues etc), Pasta dishes, Soups, lots of vegetarian meals.

I will occasionally have junk food - a takeaway lunch or dinner, I like a glass of wine at night and very very occasionally will have some chocolate or ice cream after dinner.

well I'm glad to see this thread. I love salads and I was worried I wouldn't be able to eat them anymore. I think I'm more obsessed about getting the food stuck than anything else.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
