I think about the hardest thing that I will have to get used to is no drinking. All of my life I have been drinking for all hours of the day. I rarely get dehydrated because of this - and growing up in the "semi-desert" of Southern California and now living in Houston, that is saying something. I've been dehdrated once, in the Persian Gulf while deployed there. It's darned hot there!

But I could do that, not ever get dehydrated, because I ALWAYS have something to drink. It's not a meal thing, it's just what I do. It ranges from Water to iced tea to coffee to "the big no-no" - a soda. But there is always something within reach. My mom used to think it was pretty cool, funnily enough. Said she never had to worry about me getting dehydrated. And there's a lot of other issues that come from not drinking enough, too.

So this is going to be flat out weird for me. So I'm practicing already!

Is anyone else like me on this? How did you get used to it?

I'm practicing too. Today I did a 1200 cal diet and wrote EVERYTHING down in a journal. I took a before photo and haven't even been approved. But am pretty sure I will be. I chewed my food slowly and took a full 20 min for dinner. No liquids with meals! I also rode my bike ! Yea! for me!! I am having a hard time with no liquids with meals and for an hour after. It's only been one day but it's a start. I will find out approval this week!! I'm staying positive and doing a whole lot of praying:rolleyes2:!

I've written about this topic in my blog. You get used to it, you have to. I get up, have a coffee, then it's sip, sip, sip for as much as I can. Then a little to eat, then sip, sip, sip. I used to love to skull a glass of Water, but not anymore. Oh, & illuminationlady, I drink with my meals. Usually Chardonnay! Cheers

Oh yeah. You get used to it. But I honestly still drink so much. Almost all Water. I never have soda except on occasion. Drinking a lot of water is great though because it helps with skin elasticity.

Yeah, beer is just too gassy. Champagne is o.k. if sipped very slowly, but I can't usually eat at the same time so I prefer still wine. Can't see why a bloody Mary would be a problem. Just remember, with so little food, you can get wasted quickly! :)

Oh I still party too. I can play beer pong and chug drinks with the rest of them. I think I'm just the exception though, not the rule. But you will get drunk SUPER quick. I'm such a cheap drunk now :)

Totally! And you spend so little on food, going out has never been so affordable. I spend more on booze than food for sure. And I usually have a kids lunch bag with me & a takeaway container & ice brick, so I get to get 2 or 3 meals out of the one.:)

I'm already a cheap date (according to my husband). One drink and I'm under the table...so I rarely drink.

Lori,

I also used to drink a lot of Water during the day and always had a glass nearby. Then they diagnosed me with diabetes and once my blood sugars were corrected, I had to remind myself to drink my water...although I think I still drink more than the average person. Life after band should be 'interesting'.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
