Cardiac Medical Clearance

Recommended Posts

I have an appointment with a cardiologist tomorrow for medical clearance. Anyone else have to do this? What do they do? Doc won't schedule surgery until I have this done.

I needed cardio clearance as well.....he had to do a stress test, ekg and echo before he could clear me.

I think it's pretty standard among insurance requirements. They want to make sure you can tolerate anesthesia.

I'm very new to this board....I just had my initial consultation and was told I have to wait 6 MONTHS before I can have surgery .... and... I also have to have to see a cardiologist, gastroenterologist, pulmonologist, pshychiatrist and 6 visits to a nutritionist over the 6 month period. Very disappointing!!

I too have to wait for 6 months. I have to be on a 6 mos supervised diet along with all the other appointments and tests. Two months are gone now and it actually has been quite fast. I have time to do all the appointments and practice chewing chewing chewing!

Good luck, it will be here before you (& I ) know it.

Well, all I have to do is an Echo. Scheduled for tomorrow. Doc said I should have results by Friday and then they will schedule my date. I did the 6 month diet, nutritionsit, psychologist, clearance from family MD, and upper GI. I didn't want to wait another month for whatever the cardiologist wanted to do but I explained to him this was my last step and he was very nice about it. If I am cleared by the end of the week - I will be cool with that.

I had to do 4 months...

Just start and keep chugging along.

You'll be amazed at how fast it will actually go!

Good Luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
