psichikel 0 Posted December 2, 2005 Hmmm now I am starting to wonder what is in store for me. See, I am very VERY irregular...in fact I can go months, without a period. I was taking the BC to regulate my periods but I have cancer in my family and turning 36 I decided I wanted to get off of the pills. I am hoping by losing some weight I'll be able to have normal periods but after hearing all of you describe your cycles...I'm fretting now!
Connorsmom 1 Posted December 2, 2005 Oh I am very irregular and since my banding I been having periods every 40 or so days. This last one was 26 days so go figure. Before surgery I never had my period and would go almost a year without. Too much weight can cause your cycles to stop Weight loss will bring them back
banded_for_life 2 Posted December 2, 2005 I am normal as can be and have had no problems post banding with my periods. They have come like clockwork.
Marimaru 7 Posted December 2, 2005 I was on depo and didn't have a period for 2 and a half years, but then had one 6 months after surgery and again 2 months later. I decided to switch to the pill to see if the depo was hindering my weight loss, and I have had 2 in a row now on time. But have read that anesthesia can cause it to go out of whack, plus the hormones that are released as you lose weight.

Just got a gun on Friday (Imitrex gun for injections....hehehe..I love saying that) and have a Migraine working now...Advil is not kicking in...might have to shoot someone at lunch (lmao!!!) gunn4ya 0 Posted December 12, 2005 I have heard that surgery will throw your cycle off. I had my surgery in March and did not have a period again until May. Great to skip a month! I think its a way that your body is trying to deal with healing.
Wheetsin 714 Posted December 12, 2005 Weight impacts menstruation GREATLY! Adipose tissue (fat). To make a long story short, there are very close relationships between fat and hormone levels (both estrogen and testosterone). This is why people who are overweight through puberty are more likely to have unwanted facial/chest hair growth. Anyway... changes in your body's fat composition can impact your menstrual cycles because the hormone levels in your body are also changing. Always better to be on the safe side but if it were me I wouldn't be too worried.
KINGSKID66 10 Posted December 13, 2005 Hi Tammy, Your post really caught my eye. I too get Migraine headaches. I am waaay past Imitrex injections. I thought they were straight from heaven some years ago. They took the headache away within 30 mins. Doesn't work any more. My surgery is scheduled for Dec. 27th. I hope I won't have problems with headaches. Many times they cause me to vomit. I hear that could be REALLY bad for the band. Keep posting on your progress. Halobabe 1 Posted July 17, 2006 okay, my question is, is it a problem to be ON your period when you have the surgery? I usually wear pads, but heck, I flood---so I may ask to wear a depends diaper while I'm in surgery and post op so I don't have to worry about flooding the poor bed! Do they allow you to wear underwear and tampons during surgery? Please don't think I"m silly---I really need ot know this! Karen MT
Huggs040 0 Posted July 18, 2006 You all are lucky not only did I worry about my surgery but my period showed up the day of surgery wooohoo if that wasnt a bit uncomfortable.
sleepyjean 0 Posted July 18, 2006 I had my period about a week before surgery and didn't get it again for almost two months. Then again, I have never been regular, so you can't go by me.
Huggs040 0 Posted July 18, 2006 sleepyjean. how do you add your weight loss ticker?
lizzilo 0 Posted July 18, 2006 Typically you can't wear underwear or tampons in the operating room. They will, as a matter of fact, remove them for you should you have them when you go in. Medical professionals don't care about a little blood. Not a big deal for them.
