Office workers-What's for lunch?

Recommended Posts

Yogurts are nice. Sometimes healthy or light Soups in the grab and go cans. Different types of cheese. Sometimes a portien bar or a small cup of nuts. Occassionally just some rolled up or chopped up lunch meat. Sometimes the smallest sized lunchables that have just a few crackers and a few cheese pieces and some lunch meat pieces work well or a grab and go item. Be careful of the crackers though.

I like to do a Protein Shake for Breakfast before I head out to work, then a yogurt for a snack. lunch is usually a Lean Cuisine meal - my doc recommended these and told me to keep it at about 250 calories, under 10 grams fat, over 15 grams Protein. Almost all of them have Pasta or rice - I will usually only have a few bites of that, but all of the protein. That is more than enough to fill me up!

I sometimes bring tuna and high Fiber crackers, or egg salad. I also usually bring little convenient containers of yogurt, applesauce, and that sort of thing to have around. I always have Protein shakes as well. Light string cheese is a staple too. It definitely helps for me to have "good healthy options". If you have a refrigerator keep a stock of alternatives for the week, it will help!

Hard boiled eggs are good for me in a pinch.. if I don't bring one or two luckily the cafeteria sells them pretty cheap. If I don't bring my lunch I usually make a half of a sandwich in the cafeteria with some veggies on the side. oatmeal and/or eggbeaters for breakfast...

Best of luck!!

I think that's what I'll have to start doing is having frozen dinners or leftovers for lunch. I've been trying to continue going out to lunch with the girls but, usually end up at places w/ crappy food choices. I need more control over what I'm eating.

Keep the ideas coming!

Yes, and it is usually a money waste because the portions just are not the right size either. Sometimes I will go get a small cup of Chili at Wendys or some Soup at a deli but I mostly fly solo because eating a sit down meal just seems like too much for a lunch nowadays. The upside is that I can often get a 20-30 min walk in at lunch time, when I never would before... Luv it!

I keep Protein bars in my desk if I'm in a pinch, but I usually bring lunch from home. Typically, I'll bring some turkey/cheese roll ups, some melon or berries of some sort, and some All-Bran crackers. This is enough to get me through until dinner. I have also brought tuna (in those pouches), some iceberg lettuce, and some light Italian dressing to make a little salad. If I go to to the cafe for lunch, I always get some kind of grilled meat and a side of veggies. I have gotten sick of salad and am trying to eat real food rather than Protein shakes/protein bars.

Hope this helps!

I'm pretty boring and do the same thing almost everyday - I just vary my main course. I take a greek yogurt, a string and then either leftover Protein from dinner, Soup, hummus & crackers. I just discovered that those tuna pouches are awesome; they are drained, are 2.5 oz which is a good portion, have 90 calories and 14 grams of protein. I keep a few of those in my desk drawer for emergencies.

I mix it up a bit. I get on kicks where I'll make a big batch of Soup and freeze it in individual ziplock containers and bring one for lunch each day.

I put my favorite recipes on my blog -- my favorites are butternut squash (with pears and a little blue cheese - YUM!), chicken and cheese soup with green chiles, and spicy chicken and vegetable soup.

The Soups are all easy to make, and you can puree them to whatever consistency you want.

Sometimes, I order salmon, mashed potatoes and grilled veggies from Guy and Gallard -- that lunch lasts me 2 days (and is only $13 -- I am in NYC, so that is a great price for 2 lunches). Other times, I'll order a salad and pick out all of the good fixings and eat only a little lettuce. And, once in a while, I'll get a fruit smoothie with a Protein shot.

Hope that helps! The soups are great though -- you'll save a ton on lunch, and they are super delicious and easy to make!

Best,

Catherine

That butternut squash looks great and I love anything I can top with blue cheese!

I mix it up a bit but always try to focus on Protein. I'll bring tuna (I mix with miracle whip light) and toast up some sandwich thins or bring crackers. Other days I try salad and like Catherine eat the protein out with just a little bit of lettuce. Other days, I do Beans with cheese or veggie chili with cheese and fat free sour cream.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what to have for lunch at work. Any suggestions?

I usually bring left overs from evening meals at home. When I don't have that I do a can of low fat Soup, or mix up som chicken or tuna salad. I also keep a box of Zone Perfect nutrition bars in my desk drawer for those mornings that I don't have time to eat Breakfast before leaving the house. For a morning or afternoon snack I usually bring low fat string cheese.

I work at a University with a Panda Express in the food court. I've discovered that there are several Entrees that have under 250 cal. for the small al la carte size. Mushrooms & chicken and Green Beans & Chicken are my favorite. I usually bring my lunch, but it's a good option for those days I don't have time to prepare something from home.

I usually eat the same thing everyday. I eat Fiber One Cereal and a Protein shake for breakfast and a Nutri System cup of "3 cheese Pasta w/chicken" for lunch. These are GREAT, and I bought them at our local "Big Lots" for $1 each! They are low fat, low calorie and high Protein meals designed by the glycemic index.

I do have "chicken salad kits" (also for $1) in my drawer for emergencies. When I snack, I have Peanut Butter crackers that really help with my cravings. Good luck!

I'm embarrassed to admit that I am a creature of habit.

I eat the same thing for lunch everyday:

McDonald's 3 piece chicken selects with dipping sauce.

Not too terribly exciting!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
