I was just banded on oct 6th

Recommended Posts

I was just banded on thursday and now it is saturday, my stomach is making the strangest noises all over, I am still afraid to drink more than 1 or 2 sips at a time, it kinda hurts when it goes down.

My Dr. fixed my hy-hernia and my reflux so I am thinking that I may be a bit more sore then most people. I am in alot of pain but the killer he gave me works well it just puts me to sleep.

They said to do all liquids sugar free, so 0 calories for a week, that seems strange. I think I am going to have a regular icee next week

watching my family eat is the hardest thing right now. i feel like i am missing out. i didn't think it would bother me that bad but it kinda does.

Did anyone else question their decision to have the lapband done a day or two after having it done? I know its to late by then. i think i am just in shock that i actually went through with it.

plus, how do you start those charts on the bottom, i couldn't figure it out.

Thanks

Wendy

Congrat wendy! Yep, it's called Buyers Remorse, and most of us get it in some form or another for a short time post-op. Take it easy, take care of yourself.

Also, you should NOT be doing calorie free for a week. You need calories! Are you on Clear Liquids for a week? Most are, and you should be drinking/sipping chicken or beef broth, sf Jello, even liquid Jello is good, herbal teas, clear juices. Check with your doc on the menu, just in case. I know the one thing that made me feel the worse post-op was lack of calories. I was very very swollen and my sips had to be very small. Fatique was rough the first week.

Good luck, and welcome to bandland!!!

I'm sorry you're feeling wierd! I got banded 8 days ago and I'm loving it! The 1st few days I felt blah and my muscles hurt but I never had any trouble getting liquids down. I had a hiatal hernia fixed too and I really had apretty easy recovery. I'm already back to doing everything I did before except I can't walk quite as fast yet! I did a week of liquids but I did have some calories b/c on my "liquids" I was allowed blended Soup and milk. Also I did Isopure Protein Shakes - pretty tasty. The first 4 days I wasn't hungry at all!!! Then watching my hubby eat kinda bothered me but I would just stick a bit in my mouth - savor the taste and then spit it out and after that I usually realized I didn't even want it anyways. Now I'm on mush so I can eat alot of stuff. You'll get over that feeling when you can have mush! Anyways, as far as regrets - let's see - I've lost 15 pounds, I haven't had reflux at all, I wore something I haven't worn in a year, and I'm back to doing everything I did before so no regrets yet!!! Good luck! You'll be back to normal before you know it!

Hi, Wendy. Congrats and welcome to the banded side! You may be questioning things right now, but once you heal and start the process, you will feel differently. It's hard not to regret doing something that is causing you pain right now. But the pain doesn't last forever and you will see a difference after that. For right now, you are very inflammed and swollen, particularly in the stoma area, that's where everything goes down. It's perfectly normal to have difficulty swollowing anything at this point, but as the days goe by it should and will diminish. I can't tell exactly as everyone is different and you did have other work that was done. But be patient, it will pay off.

As for getting the 'ticker' at the bottom, simply go to www.ticker.com and follow the directions. Be sure your choice is for weight loss and then you will be asked to choose your strip and then the little counting figure, in my case I have a candy corn. Then it will ask you the stats on your weight and weight loss, after that it will tell you, your ticker is completed. It will actually give you three different url's but just highlight the very first one and cut. Then you come back here and go into your personal profile. Go to the area you wish for it to be displayed on the page and press paste. What will first come up is the url address, but when you select to view your profile, that's when the actual ticker will show up. I hope these directions are clear enough for you to follow and I hope my memory is serving me right, it's been a while since I did mine. Good Luck. Feel better soon!!!

Cindy

I know how you feel because I was banded Aug 29th. I wasn't expecting to be so depressed following the surgery. But the depression only lasted for a few days. When I left the hospital, I was allowed full liquids--broth, Jello, pudding, Protein Shakes. The most pain that I experienced was in getting in and out of bed. By the 10th day, I started feeling like my old self. It is almost 5 weeks for me and I feel find. I have lost 23 pounds and am beginning to like my band.

Hi Wendy, I don't have much advice -- on Monday I will have my band surgery/hernia repair. I hope you feel better soon, make sure you take the meds so you can get some rest and let your body recover.

I would definitely call Monday morning to ask the office about the 0 calories!! You need calories for energy, sodium, potassium, etc on a daily basis. Will they let you have low sodium V8 juice, Boost drinks?

I know it hurts to watch your family eat their meals, can you take a short walk while they are eating? Take a bottle of Water with you and walk down the road/street/around the block for 15 minutes if you can.

Feel better soon, YOU CAN DO THIS :)

All the best,

Hi Wendy, welcome to Bandland!!! Believe me..I know what you are going through...with having to feed your family and not getting to eat yourself. But I finally came to terms with it and it doesn't bother me at all now.

Buyers remorse - ROFLMA. I woke up in recovery and thought "Oh no, what I have done" and then fell right back to sleep. I was fine the next time I woke up - so I do think it happens to us all even if it is only a brief moment.

I would check on the 0 calorie thing - that is no way to help your body heal.

For me day 5 was the turning point and by day 10 I could get out of bed on my own (nothing like being home alone and realizing that you can't sit up or roll over and you are trapped in your waterbed!)

This to shall pass and every day gets better than the one before.

Good luck,

Hey Wendy-

I just had my band placed on the 4th...so I'm feeling your pain! This is my first post, too. I've found that my stomach is doing all sorts of weird things...and it feels empty, too. I've been hard core on the diet regimen from the doc...and have already lost weight this first week (added to a good amount of pre-op weight loss. Something tells me that you just have to give your whole abdomen time to get back on track...it's just had some serious trauma. As far as sugar-free...my dietician said don't worry about the calorie count...just stick to the portion size as your body adjusts...and stick with the variety of foods as prescribed on the full-liquid diet. A a matter of fact...I've been warned on more than onoe occassion to stay away from sugar-free diet stuff. The body won't process artificial sweeteners as well..and it can actually store it! I'm eating a variety of foods 3x's a day, totalling just 3/4 cup each meal. yikes! No wonder my stomach is mad. "This too shall pass" right! ? Keep up the good work.

I just made regular Jello, not sugar free, so I plan to try that later. My stomach is making the weirdest sounds though. SuperDaddy, what different things are you trying. I have basically just had popsicles, hot herbal tea, Water and chicken broth which I can hardly stomach. I have had a couple bites of jello but it didn't feel right. My doc told me to stay away from anything citrus and caffeine.

I bought a bunch of chucken broth...and then decided I couldn't eat it! Jello and broth maybe aren't thick enough full liquids to calm down your stomach. It's adjusting to such a different amount of food. I've stuck with some low fat creamy Soups (tomato, mushroom, etc). I have been eating sugar free jello pudding...but I will probably buy the regular or low fat version instead of sugar-free. What is making a difference for me is variety. I try to have three 1/4 cup things mix and matched each meal. It doesn't sound like much...but you can savor it a little more when you're eating it over a 20 minute period! My doc had a list that included cottage cheese, natural applesauce, yogurt, cream corn, maltOmeal...anything that you could drink through a straw is fair game (just don't use a straw). One little tip that has helped me is to put my spoon down after every bite. The BEST thing that helps me is a super healthy snack later in the evening...that keeps my stomach from doing flips. I have ended my nights with about a half-scoop of a double-chocolate whey Protein (GNC brand) mixed good with a very small amount of skim milk. It's only adding about 120 calories, but it also adds 14 grams of protein, and I feel much better when I lay down.

Beyond that...I would have to say that having my wife being so supportive is helping best. You need a cheerleader! Rah Rah You can do it...Go Team!

Keep it up, Wendy! My journey's just begun, too, so I'll look to hear good news from you in the days to come!

welcome to the Banded Gentry both of you!

Oh, the weird noises have only just begun! You just have to learn to laugh at all the weird noises you are going to be making...

Try Miso Soup, it really helped me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
