I had my surgery last thursday...

Recommended Posts

I ve already lost 20 pounds. So super excited about that. But im starving ALL the time, ok maybe not all the time actually a lot less then i was before the surgery but when i am hungry I dont want chicken broth or apple sauce. I dont even want my usual fatty food choices but man would i kill to have a chicken club salad or mashed potatoes or a sweet potatoe. but since its only been a week and a day since ive been banded, i believe i have to stay on liquids for at least another 2 weeks. Would it absolutely kill me to start to bring solid but soft foods back in slowly???

thinned cream of wheat or oatmeal were ok for me at that stage and really helped. make a 1/2 serving and add milk. eat very slow

Im looking at my chart/list my nutritionist gave me. It says thinned oatmeal, cream of wheat, mashed potatoes, yougurt are fine for week 1-2. Just think out with milk for added protien. you can add flavorless protien powder to this as well.

Congratulations on your first step. I would NOT start with soft foods yet if I were you. Sure the hunger is annoying but it will not hurt you. Hunger pains are something you should welcome in my opinion. You likely have not experienced them much until now otherwise you wouldn't be here. Remember that hunger pains are annoying but obesity is deadly. Follow your doctor's orders to the letter. He/she has far more knowledge about this than you do and the instructions for diet are for a reason.

Another thought - if you succumb to the hunger at this early stage, what does that predict for you at a later time? Be disciplined NOW! Not later.

Best,

-Al

All surgeons are different, I know my surgeon requires:

Clear liquid diet x 3 days before surgery (the first 2 days I can have 1 meal per day besides the clear liquids).

The first week after surgery I am on a full liquid diet (I can blend up Soups etc.).

Then the next 2 weeks after that I am on "mushies" (anything I can mash up with a fork basically) and then after that I graduate to "regular" food (for the most part).

You seem a little confused about what you can have - have you checked with your surgeon/nutritionist?

I just met with my nutrionist this week and she gave me a full list of what I can have in each stage as well as lists of types of food I can buy and meal examples as well as Protein requirements.

Don't hesitate to call your doctor!

I would call!! I was on only liquids for the first week, but was so hungry that I called my Dr. and asked if I could add anything...they told me cream of wheat, oatmeal, mashed potatoes and that after a few days on them I can add flaky white fish mashed sweet potatoes etc....

II would def. call and ask.

I understand the whole thing about being able to not give in right now, but I also think that some people heal faster than others and can tolerate things better....so why torture yourself.

I just replied in another thread... I was STARVING too the week after, and I called my surgeon's office and they told me to use oyster crackers when I get overwhelmingly hungry - just to let them practically dissolve before swallowing.

I'd definitely call and ask!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
