HELP!! My hair is falling out!!

Recommended Posts

So....I just got banded on July 31st of this year and I've been doing pretty good. No fills yet but I've still been losing weight. Well along with this weight loss I've noticed that my hair is starting to fall out a lot. Like when I brush it or when I shower. No bald spots or anything like that, but it feels like alot. I know my dr. mentioned that I would be losing a little bit of hair but I never thought it'd be like this. What can I take for this or is there something I can do to make it stop falling out?? BTW, I'm taking my multi-vitamins like I was told.

There's not really anything you can do. It's normal. I started losing hair 3 months post-op. Kind of like you. No bald spots or anything but definitely waaay more than I was comfortable loosing in the shower and when I brushed my hair.

I started taking Biotin along w/my daily Vitamin (check with your doc first though!), and using Shampoo and conditioner called nioxin. I have no clue if either helped or not, but I'm still using them.

I'm a little over 6 months post-op now and while I still have more hair coming out than I did before surgery, it's nowhere nearrr the amount I had coming out in the past few months, so I'm guessing that it's slowing down (and will hopefully slow down more!).

Try not to stress out about it (Stress tends to make things like this worse) and make sure you're getting all of your proper nutrients in.

It also hit me at about 3 months. I take the Biotin as well. The big deal in this is Protein, my nut had told me to make sure I get in the 60g of portein daily. Guess it really didn't work, but I do try to keep it up. It was also explained that it is in part a reaction to the surgery. I have had other surgeries and didn't have this reaction. I feel it's coming back in, and it really seems healthier. Keep smiling and losing the weight, all else fails by a wig and some SKINNY jeans!

From what I was told by my nut, Hair loss is due to a lack of Protein. Try to up your protein intake along with taking Biotin. Biotin is very cheap, you can get a bottle of 100 tablets at Target or Walmart for less than $2. A friend of mine took 6 tabs through out the day of biotin after noticing hair loss along with upping her protein intake and her hair became fuller and shiny after a month. Good luck!

i had surgery the same day and have begun to have the same problem...or have had it for the past few weeks i should say.

my Protein intake is always averaging around 80 grams of protein so i fail to see this as a protein issue.

i am taking a super potency Biotin supplement in 5,000 MCG once a day. if you do start to take biotin however, keep in mind not to take it around the time you take your Calcium supplements. that can mess with the absorption of the biotin into your sysem.

it's truely hard for me to know if the Hair loss is also part of the natural seasonal changes as well but it's been coming out more and more which just sets me right off lol. i went out last weekend and cut my hair to my shoulders so that if the hair is still coming out, it's not as noticeable to me or others. no bald spots though *knock on wood*

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
