Is it normal to be able to have a whole tin of soup or a whole glass of water post op

Recommended Posts

I only got done the day before yesterday but I have just had a whole tin of Beef Consomme, it is the consistency of Water and went down fine. Is this normal? Should I be feeling restricted before my first fill? In the hospital I had a whole bowl of Soup and then 1.5 crispbreads, then last night I had a cup a Soup and 2 cripsbread (i had 1/2 a sachet with 1 crispbread at about 5pm then the same at about 8pm). But a couple of the other people there had hardly anything!!

Thanks

Anna

I was able to do the same thing. My doctor told me that I didn't have anything in my band yet but that everyone's anatomy is different. Therefore some people feel restriction right away and others do not, especially while still swollen from the surgery. I wasn't allowed anything but liquids (no crispbread) and everything went down fine.

Good luck on your journey and if you have any other questions, just ask. There's always someone that will help.

even with the swelling you still have an opening from the pouch to the lower stomach. Thin liquids will not stay in the pouch for more than a few seconds before draining. I would just drink fairly slowly. This is normal.

I'm almost 4 months post op, and I still do not have problems drinking liquids, so its a real effort to remember to slow down and just take sips, but I'm getting better at it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
